Default A few more heli night fly pix.

I wanted to share another night heli fly pix from last weekend. The dots and lines in the photos is an approaching full scale helicopter.

Using a Nikon D300 with a 20 year old manual focus 24mm lens, tripod mounted.

Shutter speeds range from 10 to 30 seconds. The camera is tripod mounted and I use a wired remote most of the time. I lock it open and follow the heli as smooth as I can. If you keep it open longer than 30 seconds, ambient light and noise starts to be a problem. 20 seconds at f/5.6 seems to be the sweet spot. F-Stop varies from f/5.6 to f/8. Some helis are brighter than others so you have to make adjustments. Also if one heli stays in the same area too long I end the exposure as the finer shades of colors and the fine colored lines start disappearing. I shoot RAW format so I have the most adjustability available..
