Hi folks!
I would love if some one could take their time and give some feedback on my very first flying video ever! For some reason I got very nervous having the camera pointing at me but maybe thats good training. I've had some walkera micros the past year but it wasn't until january this year I went all in and bought a 450 pro. I have practiced in phoenix sim. I think I fully understand this heli now and that it's flying fine. Any sort of feed back regarding my flying is welcome:-)

Thanks,
Tom

Default 450 TREX Pro Head & Sport Tail & HDX Superframe STK Frankenheli Build

This is my first 450-class collective pitch helicopter I bought used off the internet and destroyed on a ground test (too much neg pitch with blades on). Finally got a new hobby room put together and new parts bought. Bought parts from few different models and makes of helicopters and assembled them into my new Frankenheli. Spent lots of time carfully merging the differing parts together into one tight spec'ed flying machine, thanks to the old micrometer and Google. I tore down every nut, bolt, bearing, and piece that was screwed together and reassembled them all from scratch. Just got it in the air over the last few days and have worked out all the fine tuning. No instruction manual for the Frankenheli. Lots of reading heli forums on the net. It flies great, now to sharpen my flying skills without breaking anything!

This is the original 450 helicopter I bought used on the net and destroyed in a ground flight testing mishap that exploded the head and sent parts flying all over my kitchen floor, luckily none in my legs.

Tearing down the old green machine to salvage any parts that were not bent.

Old green machine parts.

Salvaged all the electronics but had to rebuild 2 of the servos that took damage.

Goodbye lime green machine!

Test fitting the electronics.

The new HDX 450 G10 frame with T-Rex 450 Pro head and Scorpion HKII 2221-8 motor and rebuilt Hitec HS65HB servos (those tiny servo gears are a pain with fat fingers).

Got the T-Rex 450 Pro canopy to fit the HDX mounting points by drilling new mounting holes.

The new T-Rex 450 Pro head all reassembled and aligned.

Mounted the Castle Creations Phoenix 45 ESC speed controller and the Futaba GY401 gyro and Spektrum AR6110e reciever.

Old CNC Heli tail assembly (future upgrade will be black or silver tail to get rid of blue) stripped down and rebuilt working better than before. Originally had one wrong bolt blocking tail pitch movement in one direction installed, replaced with flathead bolt and 100% movement restored. I decided to use the TREX Pro head but a Sport's belt drive tail. No tail drive gears for me yet. Need more landing practice first!

Looks straight to me!

Notice the #10 brass flat washers from Lowes and stock T-Rex shims spacing the T-Rex head perfectly into the HDX frame head bearings with .12mm on each top and bottom. Had to do a few of these hardware store mods to get a few things within specs. (sorry so blurry, I'll have to retake this pic)

Reused my Hitec HSG-5084MG digital tail servo. Tail fins still need to be painted.

Looks good enough to fly.

Finished finally! Time to fly!

I'll post a video as soon as I take one!

Default Main gear drive issue?

My rudders won't spin! When the motor is on it isn't catching the main drive gear!

Default Still scared to fly like I do on a Sim

I have been flying heli's on and off for about 5 yrs. I have also been flying at least 5 hrs a week on the Sim. Still, I can't get myself to fly like I do on the Sim! Just thinking about crashing makes my thumbs shake.
I do okay with sport flying and mild 3d, just no hard 3d unless I'm on the sim! Maybe I'll start getting after it when the kids get out and I have extra money to fix my heli's. LOL!!!!!!!

I was having the same feelings as you for quite a while. I could do all sorts of moves on the sim and was also able to control everything very well but when it came to real world actions my nerves got the better of me every time.
Here lately it seams I've been getting over it with my 450 and I been starting to conquer it with my X5 too but it's all because of flying my Heli's numerous times a day and doing like you by making my moves way up high and also set personal goals to try a new "thing" once a week. One day out of nowhere I felt at ease pulling off nose in moves and then it before I noticed it the sides are coming to me now.
I'm still a little hesitant with the X5 but it's not far behind the 450.
The sim is awesome for the basics and fundamentals and figuring out new moves but nothing replaces true stick time.
Good luck and nice flight

Thanks MAMARTIN. I bring my 450 heli with me to work almost everyday and fly during my break. Trying to get as much stick time as I can. Hopefully I can get over the nerves by the time I get my Trex 550

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one that does this. I kinda like the attention my heli-in-a-duffel-bag gets me when I'm on the bus or train, too...though I hate the "does that run on gas" question. It's like they suddenly think "oh it's just a toy then" when I say, "no, it's electric". Pfft.

my cuzzie had an idea to due to me showing him my 450 sport and I myself have always thought of it, since he works on a farm he got the local farmer around and these sort of guys don't see this sort of equipment speeding around and were really amazed by it, so back to this idea...it was to round up a herd of milking cows of about 150. It worked!!! Lol they got the shits and went quick as ae .... I went around sides like a dog and had them on the other side of the paddock in like 3mins...worked like a charm, funny as, I landed and had a chat and just started hailing and the whole herd was walking towards the milking shed 300 meters away!! Too easy!

Bugger I didn't get a vid
