Default first step on new build

step 1 install servos in mounts. can I build the heli without electronics or do I need them to be in place for alignment? i'm retiring my furion but would like to keep flying it until I have to transfer all the electronics over, is this a sound plan?

You can build it without the elec's. The main servo block is very easy to take out, the top 6 screws hold it into the frame. Take those screws out, you can pop the whole mount out.
You may have to undo one side to get the elevator servo in, but that's about it.
However, make sure you don't loctite anything. Just dry fit the entire setup. Then, when you put the servos in, make sure all the block screws are loose, put the main gear in and then put the main shaft through the bearings. Then tighten the screws, and make sure it's perfectly aligned.

Enjoy.
Make sure you pay attention to details though. The tolerances on the Mini are super super tight.

I agree it is possible, having had to replace servos... but to be honest I think it is much easier to build the servo cage with electronics and servos 90ed etc, but that is just my opinion : )

I install the ele servo after assembly installed in frames.. You may need to loosen the upper mount screws on the 2 servos to get main shaft alignment but yes you can do later.
Good luck, it's a great build

One is for a Flybarless setup the other a flybar. The FBL spindle is longer.

Yes, the manual states it, but just barely. The FBL spindle is longer, and you need the thicker spacers to accommodate.

one last question then, I was flying this morning a little bit aggressively when all of a sudden the blades went wildly out of track. I actually managed to bring it into a stable hover and land no problem at all, so when I checked it out the collar had come loose so the main shaft could move up and down a little, again no problem but now that I look at the collar there is a stepped edge facing up , is there a step on both sides or do I have it in upside down?

It's not spinning at the same rpm a 'true' 3s motor would be. It's not needed quite as often, but yea it's still a good idea.
And get some green loctite for the collar. Be careful to not get it into the bearing though.
