how to make my trex 500 wild?
hey guys,
since day one i found my trex 500 a little sluggish. now, after flying my 550 for a while, i'm pretty sure it really is. what kind of mods can i do so that the heli will have more power? the heli flips very slowly, for example. i'm at 100% TC and it still is slow. should i have a new motor? a new pinion? which ones? thanks a lot. |

If you have a flybar heli put smaller paddles on it. Makes the heli quicker
Get your head speed up.... Make small changes as you go Try those two things and see where your at. If you want you can give it more pitch

Nope, stock esc at 100% throttle curve works great. The Scorpion was the hot motor, the MX is now the leader.
FBL also decreases the load on the motor/batteries and allows for much higher pitch on the collective/cyclic for increase agility. You will not be disappointed. |

Get a battery charger that can measure the internal resistance of your packs like a icharger.
Your packs are probably toast. High resistance kills performance. Dido with the 500mx / 13t, 3GX FBL, TT, if you don't already and Mavrikk wide chord blades and run it at 2700 rpms, then you'll have a rocket ship |

isn't the 500mx meant for a 70-80a esc? are you guys sure i won't burn my 60-70a esc? i saw a talk in another forum about the scorpion 3026-1600kv motor on the trex500 with great results. it is a little more expensive than align's, indeed, but it was made for a 60-70a esc. i wasn't willing to invest a fbl on my trex500. would only the 500mx (or the scorpion 1600kv) make a difference? Thanks! |

+1 on kbdd paddles for a quick cheap way to increase roll and flip rates. Night and day difference from the align paddles

I run a Scorpion 1400 KV motor with a 15 tooth pinion Was $79.99 from helidirect. Governer in ST1 is 85% 2711 HS, ST2 is 100% 2919 HS flat curves. Doing Mild 3d i get no bog and crap tons of power. I don't know if you run expo but if you don't add some positive expo to increase flip and roll rates. Also I found when mine was seeming sluggish I added travel to the heli through the radio and increased my cyclic from 65% up to 85%. Super fast now. guys at the local club were amazed at the difference. The total pitch on my blades from 65% to 85% was 8 deg to 10 deg. hope this helps. Oh I also run a cheapie Turnigy 70 amp esc from hobbyking. Close to 200 flights at this point with no problems.

The KBDD Dampers will help too. When my Trex 600E was still flybarred, the KBDD Paddles (TWEE's on the 600) and a set of the orange dampers really sped up the cyclic, with no sacrifice in stability.
