DAhmad,

I would imagine, since MAAC and AMA have a mutual agreement for flying within Canada and/or the US, that you would be able to pre-register just as any AMA member would, though I'm not sure how that works through FlightDeck, or whether you can put a MAAC number in instead of an AMA number.

Default Blowout

If anyone attending will be using private/executive class aircraft for arrival, our airport (X04, 4000ft) is about 15 min. away. You can PM me for contact info, and I can handle aircraft storage, transportation, hotel, fueling. We also have a neighboring RV park.
Thanks, Greg

Any change of a live/semi-live/asynchronous feed....?! no need for hugh fancy coverage, some static views might also do the trick

The rest of the rc heli world is into deep snow, wet and subzero temps. so we could use the boost from this event!

BTW. we're is the countdown on helifreak's frontpage?

You are gonna love OHB! It's like a mini IRCHA, but you actually get to fly more. I'm very sad that I can't make it this year. I am looking forward to the OHB mini blowout though. :-)

Hi Bill

we aren't offering medium size shirts which is why you can't select them. These are 100% cotton shirts so I expect a Large will work just fine

Here are the rules for the night flying competition!

The Orlando Helicopter Blowout 2013
Night Flying Competition Guide

• Any pilot can enter. The flight must be “solo”, no teams or tandem flights will be allowed.
• Pilots can enter during the event by signing up at the registration booth, please make sure to submit your music selection by Friday evening.
• There will be a maximum of 10 pilots.
• There will be 3 flight judges.
• There will be 2 “crowd participation judges”.
• The winner of this event will have put on the best overall show for the judges and spectators.
• Pilot will perform a freestyle flight of his/her choosing.
• The flight should not last more than 6 minutes.
• The flight may be performed with any helicopter with any power system.
• The flight should be accompanied by music.
• Main and tail rotor CAN touch the ground during the flight. However, if the flight line boss determines the helicopter is unsafe to continue flying, the pilot shall land and the flight will be scored up to the point of ground contact.
• All pilots will be observed by 3 flight judges.
• An official will indicate to the pilot and judges when 6 minutes have elapsed.

How the winner will be chosen:

There will be 5 categories to determine the winner:

Excitement (30%)

The flight judges will observe the “excitement” level of the flight. This includes, but it is not limited to; proximity to the ground, fast transitions, unexpected moves, speed and intensity of the flight “mood”.

Presentation and Creativity (20%)

The flight judges will observe the overall presentation and creativity of the flight. This represents items such as; type of music being used, flight dynamic (slow, fast, high, low), helicopter lights or lack of thereof, special music effects or light effects, unexpected or original music with its matching helicopter routine, etc.

Technical Difficulty (15%)

The flight judges will observe the types of maneuvers attempted by a pilot. Scores will be based on the difficulty of maneuvers and the mix of difficult maneuvers attempted. More of both will result in a higher score.

Choreography (15%)

The flight judges will observe how well the pilots flight is timed and matched to a musical selection provided by the pilot. Maneuvers that match musical timing and crescendo will result in higher scores.

Crowd Participation (20%)

The crowd participation judges will score this category based on the crowd reaction to the each flight.
The “Crowd Participation” category will amount to 20% of the overall score.

Score Leveling

Scores will be calculated as relative to all observed pilots. So when all pilots have flown, the judges CAN adjust individual scores to reflect their impressions of how any pilot performed in a particular category against all other pilots who participated.
This reduces any advantage/disadvantage associated with being the first or last pilot to perform.

Anonymity

All pilots will remain anonymous to the crowd, the flight judges and the crowd participation judges. This will be done in an attempt to eliminate any biased judging or crowd behavior. The pilots will be called “Pilot #1, Pilot #2, etc.”

The flight judges will be recording their score at the end of every flight. The crowd participation judges will be placed approximately 200 yards apart (100 yards to the left and 100 yards to the right of the pilot). Flight judges will collect crowd participation noise levels independently and then the score will be combined into one.

The winner will receive $1,000.00 USD!

Good luck!

The number of pre-registered pilots keeps growing!

Don't forget your pre-registration includes a custom made unique pilot t-shirt plus enrolls you in a special raffle only for pre-registered pilots.

If you have any issue getting pre-registered, let me know here via PM or via email from the event registration dashboard:

Attention pilots, we'll be giving away a brand new helicopter kit to a lucky pre-registered pilot. So, if you haven't pre-registered, do so now for a chance to win this kit!

In addition, you will only have to spend about 1 minute at the registration booth when you arrive as we'll already have all your information, AMA info, etc., and you'll get a free shirt. So why not pre-register?

Pre-registered pilots:
- Free T-shirt
- Quick in/out at the registration booth
- Chance to win a free, brand new helicopter kit

Non pre-registered pilots:
- No T-shirt
- Wait in line to register at the field
- No chance to win a free, brand new kit

You decide

Just a reminder. We will be having the Toys for Tots box out at the parking entrance. Last year we doubled our goal for donations. This year we hope to do even better. So don't forget, please please bring a toy with you.
