Reason my Trex700 likes high gyro gain?
Hi guys,
I just got my new trex 700e in the air last weekend, and in the middle of tuning the gyro. Only have one set of packs, so it's been a slow process, along with first flight checks. I've set up 3 governed headspeeds, normal is 1850, idle1 is 1950, idle2 2000. For the moment, normal gyro is set I 60% in HH (DX8). I'm working on idle1, and got it comfortable at 80%. Got oscillation as low as 83-84%, sky backed it off 3 more points. My question is this. Why is the percentage value so high? I've read a lot of people are around the 60-70% mark in HH, similar HS. Any particular reason why some models like higher or lower gains? This is also using a AR7200BX.

I have mine set lower also, I'd have to look, but it's around 60, but it is also a V3 so it has a higher tail speed and I run 115 tails.
What tail blades are you using? |

I'm pretty sure mines the V2, I believe it's the first FBL model, obviously no DFC head.
Sound right? Has the white canopy. I'm running the stock 105mm cf align blades.

the white canopy is a V1.
I have a V1.... the V1 and V2 have a slower tail ratio. the tail spins slow, so it was very common to use larger tail blades and higher head speeds. the V3 gears fit on the V1. get the black gears. you do have to file down the counter bearing a tiny bit but it is totally worth it.

Tail gain values vary for many reasons
Head speed tail gear ratio tail blade size distance of ball on servo horn type of tail servo mechanical gain if any for tail rotor linkage arm. vibrations tuning

... and play! The more play in the tail mechanics, the less gyro gain is possible

I'll hang onto the current tail setup, until the inevitable happens and I upgrade parts.
My main concern, was checking that there was no obvious issue with having to run a high gyro gain on my setup. If everyone says it's fine, I'll leave the setup with its high gain of 80%.

higher gain will work the tail a lil bit harder, just check the servo temp after a flight to be sure it's not hot.
other than that nothing to worry about none of my helis have the same gain%. If I remember right the highest I have is 72% on my 600N.

I find that on the 3gx and ikon, I have to put the travel adjust of the gyro above 100% for it to match what the unit sees. In other words, on my 550 I had my radio set ~85%, but in the software, the ikon showed about 50%. I raised the travel adjust to match the two readings, and now it's set ~48% (radio and software).
Between my 2 ikons and 1 3gx, none of them matched values with the radio at 100% travel. Might be a situation similar to that. |

K2 you freak those are your end points for piro rate

Negative Ghost rider. Rudder gain. It goes up to 120 but I have heard you can enter a higher number...
End point and piro rate are separate in VBar. Granted, the way i have it set the transmitter is mostly out of the picture. You definitely got the freak part right!

K2 you advised I should get the DS650 onto 6v instead of regulated 5.1v.
This a factor that would effect gain?
