Default first mini protos motor question

Im in the middle of rebuilding a mini P .. Ive got all the spare electrics from my old blade 400. and noticed the motor shaft on the protos is very unique. I was wondering what 3s motor options are out there for this heli besides the stock MSH 3s motor. the stock blades 400 is 3800kv. I was wanting to run this heli at about the same performance, maybe a tad more.. Still on 3s though.

You can use a couple of other motors, but you'll need to change the shaft out. Also, the Mini is quite unique. Look at the Main Gear(120T) and Pinion(14-18T) sizes. Your motor KV is WAYYYY too high. You want to be around 2900KV(stock is 2850).

Scorpion 2520 size motors will fit without modification. Unfortunately, the closest KV you could get is 3500KV. So you might be able to Govern down to 3600+ on a 14T pinion. Not ideal.

Do you have buckets of 3s batteries? Why do you want to stay 3s? You're pretty much locked into the stock motor.

You don't need to be a hardcore flier to take advantage of 6s motors.

Use the stock 3s motor then

Yes kV of your old motor is too high, the stock 3S motor has 2580kV. There are not many other 3S motors in the kV range, I think Hobbyking has one with 2500kV. Not much choice, but the stock 3S MSH/Scorpion motor is working ok for me. I´d be surprised if it´s not way more powerful than the Blade 420H one - according to Google it´s rated at 320W/15sec, whereas the Scorpion is 530W continuous power.

If you do not need high head speed I´d consider gearing down with a Lynx 14T or even 13T pinion.

That hobbyking motor is not very powerful nor efficient. not sure why.. spongy magnets perhaps.

Installing the shaft was not difficult. Later on got a used stock 3s motor and i still fly that.

I still have the hk motor for sale if someone needs it.
