Question 300 cfx servo upgrade

Recently got a 300cfx, crashed second time out. rebuilt stripped servos, getting ready to go through beast x set up. Hobby shop is suggesting Hitec metal gear servos. Are they needed for regular flight, or are the stock servos OK?

stock are junk..do a search here and see what everybody recommends..i have the 5055's and like them..even for regular flight I wouldn't trust them, unless u like crashing for no other reason than a junk servo gave out

+1 to all that
There is so much info here on servos and allot of good choices, you will find all the info you decide to make the choice.
I have had Hitecs for a couple of years - I got them year before last on a Black Friday deal, as you do your research you will find there are cheapier alternatives that people have been happy with.

I personally never had trouble with those stock servos on my 300X or 450X with 100s of flights on both flying sport and mild 3D. I also made sure that when I rebuilt them I cleaned them out really good so that there was nothing foreign inside (ie. stripped tooth) that could foul them in flight.

My 300CFX was purchased as an airframe so I went with metal geared servos, just because I got them on sale.

I don't think they are necessary, but metal geared servos are an upgrade to stock. The fact that they will not strip and require rebuild makes repairs a bit easier too.

I read kst215's will fit. I have them on my gaui x3 and they work great. They might be over kill though on the 300x though

Not overkill, a bit heavy maybe... cheap enough and really fast...

Plastic breakaway servo arms are also a good upgrade - break the arm instead of the gears. They definitely work well with metal geared servos. I don't know whether plastic gears are strong enough to allow the arm to break though.
