Default Spin 16300kV - 8T or 9T w/o governor?

Hey folks,

So I've upgraded my HP05 to an xtreme spin 16300kV motor. I bought both a 8T and 9T pinion, and am using a XP7A with stock firmware. Aside from flashing the firmware (I don't want to spend $$ to buy a BLheli programmer just yet), would I be better to run a 8T, or a 9T and limit the throttle curve to a certain percentage below 100?

Also, I picked up some Loctite 609. If I wanted to remove a pinion after using it, can I just use a pinion puller, or is there a better method?

Thanks for any guidance!

I have an 8T pinion on mine and I fly 85% flat with great results. It runs even better now that my ESC is flashed.

Just as Craig, my buddies flashed ESC 16.3 runs great in the 80-90% range governed.

I would be hesitant to run it non-flashed at or near 80%, should be higher to ensure good cooling and motor efficiency. I would do a short flight and get a good feel of the ESC and Motor to make sure they are not too hot. I would expect a good bit of bogging running it that low.

I recommend the 8T w/ the 16.3, especially if you desire lower HS. I think at 100% its somewhere in the 6500-7000 range. This motor IMO is best paired with the 8T as it has some descent torque. I think this was the first motor I performed descently tight tic tocs with.

To remove an old pinion that has already had 609 used on it, simply heat with a lighter or hit soldering iron for a good bit, and pry it off. (I use a small flat head under the pinion). If its hot enough it should almost slide right off, so don't pry hard.
