I was going to defend them and say it's probably no more dangerous than walking down the footpath on a busy road and it's not like he's smakin tictocs and piro flips.......

but then I seen the pilot walking around on ice while flying

I don't think those people know how dangerous that thing could be though, one tiny part fails and it goes down.

The youtube comments say it all. Its a poorly arranged photo shoot from start to finish. Spooling up and flying further away from people and cars would be better.

Does a zoom lens affect the video quality?

Zoom lens has many issues. It really depends on what you are trying to film and compose your shot... Not that I think that much thinking went into this other than "we have a camera on a helicopter".

Here is a decent example of safety with multi vs single rotor for video: A blade strike from a 700 on a person can be fatal. A single 15" prop from a cinema octo will do serious damage, but not likely to be fatal. There are benefits to each, but I'd say(at the least) for safety sake, they chose the wrong platform for this shoot!

Its always interesting that people get extremely excited about mistakes made a few years ago. I hope everyone freaking out realized that the video is from early 2012.
Yes - since a while that would not be a good idea. Actually was not a good idea back those days but as it often is we learn from mistakes. At that time its unfortunate - those things have been much more common.

Do you mean that in 2012 people who flew large rc Helis didn't realize it would be bad if they hit somebody?

I like the setup, but this is the wrong place for it.

Yes - the safety topic sure is not new and we follow basic rules for many years but we look into them much more serious since a few years now.
Not to take me wrong - I consider myself a safe pilot and push for safety quite a bit. What just makes no sense is to judge based on old mistakes rather look into the current times. Sensitivity for safety has increased a lot.

He backpacked his FPV ground station. How is this not a common standard on how to FPV?

Oh yeah, that is dangerous. If he slips.. but he probably has the Naza-H that makes it hover hands-off.

And if your avatar is you then you are a hypocrite because it's in the same position in space as the one in this video.
