My BLADE 300 X Impressions...
Picked up my new BLADE 300 X from a Local Hobby Store here in Germany and got it home for its Photo Op and then some Lipo break-in Hovers. Two words to start my Impressions of BLADE'S new 300 X:
!!!!!!! FREAK'N AWESOME !!!!!!! One moment Please... Okay, the photo's first: ***See Attachments*** Impressions: Where do I start...I'm an Intermediate pilot right now and I'm still learning 3D. Other than that, one really needs to see and hold the BLADE 300 X in person to really get a sense on just how 'Small' this Heli is. - When I hold my 450 X in my hands, the Heli feels "Big" - When I have the 300 X in my hands, the Heli feels "Small" - When I fly my 450 X in my backyard, the Heli actually makes me feel like my backyard got "Smaller" - When I did a few hovers with the 300 X, I felt like I could fly this Heli "Anywhere" * For those of you who just compare HxWxL and Photo's, you're only getting part of the picture. The Main Blade disc diameter/area of the 450 X is so much larger than the 300 X that I personally feel my range of flight is "Limited" when compared to the 300 X flying in the same area...my backyard. - If the 300 X had come out 2 years ago, I wouldn't have purchased my Walkera V200D03 - If the 300 X released a month ago, I wouldn't have purchased my Align Trex 250 Pro DFC kit (still in its box)...thinking about it now, with a few hovers of the 300 X under my belt, I probably would of purchased a second 300 X What two things do I feel I wish I could of seen on this new 300 X Heli: 1) I like the one-way bearing that's on my Trex 250, especially during spool down; for me it just seems like it takes the stress of a spool down away from the drivetrain (main gear and motor). Is this a deal breaker for me, NO. I want another one and more Lipo's! 2) Carbon Fiber Main Blades straight out of the box...heck, Horizon Hobby/BLADE Team could of used this Heli to promote their new "Revolution" Main Blade line (HINT, HINT). As an Intermediate pilot, I've crashed and blade striked enough to be able to repair the parts needing repair or replacement; then follow up with going through adjustment and setup. Plus the BLADE Team post How-To Repair video's on their website...so CF Main Blades would of been nice to see out of the box. So that's my 2 cents with photo's. In the coming days I'm really sure that 3D pilots and really good flyers will post their video's for all to see. I really dig this new 300 X and all its possibilities and even though I have a 130 X ordered through HH, somehow I feel that I'll be flying this Heli more in the coming days. Thanks HeliFreaks! Richard

I didn't realize it was that small! This may be a more viable option for those who only have a small park or smaller back yards to fly in

When I walked into the Hobby Store there was one on display and initially I thought it was a scaled down model of the 300 X, laughs!
This 300 X, IMHO, is an Excellent size Heli but in truth for me, I still feel like I'd purchase the 450 X and 130 X. I love All Helis but BLADE did good with this new line-up.

It does sit quite high for how long it is.... I think that is what makes lots of people think it is close to a 450 for size. Your pictures are great, really puts into perspective how small it actually is.

Great review. thanks. Now I have to get one I think you hit the nail on the head when u mentioned the disk diameter. Length and height probably will have less effect than disk diameter. Will just have a different feel than the 450

Nice review. Hope this one gets better ratings then the 130x. But I am happy I went 250se. Cheaper batteries and I had it months ago now.

I'll have to See...

I do wish I had a IR gun to measure Heat but that will be a purchase that I'll make on the next payday. Besides, my experience is that Brushless motor's (Scorpion, Align, Blade) all seem 'Hot' to me the first few flights but as I run more packs through them, they generally get broken-in and run cooler. I guess it's a good thing that I don't do a lot of 3D right now, laughs! With all my BL motors, especially the Scorpion's, I bought that Scorpion Motor Bearing Lubrication Kit oil that I use to lubricate all my motor's...just a drop or two. Knock-On-Wood, my 440H motor in my 450 X is still going strong and there's still no excess play with the BL motor shaft or bearings...keeping my fingers crossed even though I have a spare 440H motor that I bought for the 450 4D.

my motor wasn't hot at all, but so far i am flying 3min only cause of new batteries, i did some light 3D and motor was ~45°C with ambient ~25°C, ESC ~35°C - i forgot to measure the batteries, though they feel warm i guess around 35-40°C will measure them today. flown 10 batteries so far

how is size comparable to 450X .... I find my 450X intimidating in such a way that I only hover about 1 mt height and always tail in my my mcpx I fly it much higher and can hover side ways as well and do some FF....
Will I have same situation with 300X or I am better off with a 130X ? |

Good Question
Quote:
But from my perspective, when I fly the 300 X the view of the rotor blade disc in flight is not nearly as intimidating as the 450 X was and I'm actually feeling more comfortable with every flight faster. I know it just takes time to become comfortable for me because I've felt that way with All my Helis when I first flew them (Co-Axial, Fixed Pitch, Collective Pitch) but now I can spool up and hover, let's say, my V120D02S with no intimidation at all. Just keep hovering your 450 X and only move at your "Own" pace. As far as size, here's a photo but you really have to see and hold this thing in Person because it is "Small" in my opinion. I haven't gotten my 130 X in the mail yet so I'm not sure if I can comment on which one would be better.

The 300X size feels perfect for me - a little larger than my old Trex 250, making it better for working on as well as better visibility and smaller than the slightly intimidating 450. I, however, still want the 130X for learning new stuff where the MCPX isn't capable.

You have a mcpx that's your trainer that's what your meant to fly and a sim till your skills improve till you can comfortably hover your 450x in all directions. If its unstable and all over the place go back to the mcpx. I perfected banked turns forward flight on mcpx and could fly my 450 3d first day nose in since I trained up my skills first. Mcpx and 450x fly much the same. |

For me, unfortunately in the beginning, I took the expensive route and learned the hard way about setup and repair. The 300 X however is proving to be a stable platform to take my skills to the next level and I'm really liking this Heli.

How do you rate your 300X against your Trex 250?
I had a preorder on a 300X, but due to the delay upgraded my 250SE to DFC with BeastX and was veeerrrry impressed. I changed my preorder to a 130X Now I'm wondering if I made a good choice with the 130, it should be fine after the early niggles are sorted out I've always liked the 300 size, I had an SR, so may just have to get one at some point |

Seriously, the 130 X looks like the perfect "sweet spot" size between the 450 and mCP X. Guess I'll find out then it arrives tomorrow. |

Danke Steve!
Yeah, knock-on-wood the 300 X is just the Heli I've been looking forward too and it behaves so well! Other than adding +15% expo she's stock. Tail holds just fine and range check seems fine...though I doubled checked my DX8 to ensure it was set for 11ms / DSMX. My Gyro is still at 54% and it surprised me that I didn't have to adjust anything; my 450 X required some tuning. I saw your video, Excellent 3D!!! And no, I'm nowhere near your Skill Level, laughs! I'm right on the borderline between ordering a 130x and 300x???
I have a brushless hp05 mcpx right now and am just learning flips, etc... I know the 130x would be the next 'logical' step, but i like the size of the 300x... I think the deciding factor will be which one is the overall better built/designed heli. I would love to hear which one is the better bird once a few of you have had a chance to fly both |
