From what I understand, this gyro is less finicky on a larger size heli such as a Trex 500 or 600, etc...

I'm using a 770 on both my trex450 and a Raptor 50. The trex is good with the exception of a small bounce back on right piros, and as of yet can't get the gyro to stop wagging the tail on the Raptor no matter what gain setting I use. I have tried all the way form 90 down to 8 with constant tail wag. I am currently trying different tape and hope this will work.

I had bounce back on my Vibe. I moved the ball into the closest hole and upped the limit to full throw (near max limit). That got rid of most of the bounce. I then found I could up the gain (so far 5 points from 55 - 60 using gyro sense), and that got rid of the bounce back. I need to try even higher gain.

It seems that the 770 likes the limit to be maxed.

That sort of makes sense. When I was running the 770 on my 550 I ended up moving the ball in to 10.5mm. That got me closer to max and I had less bounce. I think I ended with the the ATVs at 135%L, 150%R, the DR at 50% and the Expo at 40%. I believe the gain ended up at 62% on the gyro gain menu. No bounce and the tail held great.

On my Furion just about the same setup with the ball at 8mm. (Which is the min you can run on a DS3500G, 3400G or 290G for that matter) My gain is currently set at 60% on the gain menu. Even at 8mm the limit is turned way down and I'm not real thrilled with how it's holding the tail on the Furion.

Since the 770 worked so well on the 550, I may put it back on that heli and put a Spartan on the Furion.

I've just put a G770 on my 450. I followed the instructions from JR. Settings are: ATV at 150/140 (it was at 150/150 when I set the mechanics), DR at 70, Expo at 50, I use ATV to control the gyro gain and it's at 27. Running a 3400G at 8mm, and the limit on the gyro is at max. If I set the gain at 28, the tail wags, at 27 it doesn't hold. Next I'm gonna try will be carbon tail blades.

I think it's time for a 500 sized heli.

Let me see if I have this right? I have this gyro in a t-rex 500 with an X9303. I set it up as listed. I am still a newbie and I like to have my set up so piro rate kind of slow. With the gyro setup as listed the piro rate is to FAST for me and the stop is CRAZZY!
So I need to lower the D/R % to slow it down and increase the EXPO to slow the stopping power? Do I have this right?

Lowering the gain softens the stop.

I am at 58% on the gain in the X9303 and am on the inner hole also. Do not what to go to low and put it in rate mode and I thought that I read on this form that expo soften the feal @ center and the stopping power from a piro spine? I will try it out and up the expo and see what happens!

I’m finding myself a bit confused here. My 770 is performing ok at this point, but not to specifications. Very little tail drift and a bounce-back on piro stop.

I have a DX7 and a Blade 400 and the 770 is in the gear channel and I’m using sens. Where do I set the DR, expo and ATV? Gear or Rudder? I am currently using the rudder channel for all settings except gain of course.

Start with the following settings:

Rudder push rod in outer hole of normal servo arm. Ensure that the tail
push rod is free to move but without slop. Ensure that the servo arm is at
right angles to the push rod.

Rudder channel: Set travel adjust to 150% each side of neutral. Set 30%
exponential to soften the rudder stick response.

Gain control channel (gear?):

Negative travel 25% - this gives 25% gain in RATE MODE. The travel volume
sets the gain with 100% travel giving 100% gain. 25% gain is a good
starting point. Increase if necessary to give a more solid tail.
Positive travel 25% - this gives 25% gain in HEADING HOLD MODE. The travel
volume sets the gain with 100% travel giving 100% gain. 25% gain is a good
starting point. Increase if necessary to give a more solid tail.

When using normal mode, set an amount of revolution mix as suggested by the
T-Rex instructions.

Contact Horizon Hobby for advice in setting up the transmitter.

Yes, 40% is linear. Instructions recommend starting with 50% and fine tuning to your liking.

30% is actually like running reverse expo

Doesn't make sense to me.

1) Instructions say 40% expo is linear and to start with 50% and fine tune to your liking. So why would you start with 30%? That is like 10% in the WRONG direction.

2) Everyone seems to be finding that the 770 likes the ball in as close as possible and running a higher limit setting.

I haven't stopped by in the other thread in awhile. Here is a quick compilation of everything I've learned about the 770 3D.

1. READ THE MANUAL

2. Toss the included mounting tape right in the garbage can. Pickup this tape at your hardware store.

3. READ THE MANUAL AGAIN!

4. Start with 1 layer of tape and go from there, don't be afraid to use 2 or 3 layers. If you get drift you probably need more tape.

5. Tail blades are VERY important with this gyro. For some reason my Trex 500 didn't like stock blades or K+B blades. Once I put align carbon blades on everything behaved much better.

6. READ THE MANUAL A FINAL TIME!

7. Once you can quote the manual by verse and line it's time for the most important part FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Everything you need to get this gyro spot on is in that little manual. JR knows what they are doing don't second guess stuff in that manual.

8. Make sure you have the maximum amount of mechanical gain built in. This means throwing away your helicopter's build manual, don't follow the ball placement in your helicopter's manual OR in the 770 3D manual. This is the ONLY time your allowed to ignore the manual.

9. Set your potentiometer to max, set your ball as far in on the horn as it will go. Make sure your in rate mode (very important). Slowly start moving the ball out on your horn, when you get binding back off the potentiometer slightly. Your pot should be set between 90-100 percent with no binding in either direction.

10. Setting your gain WILL effect other radio settings. Lowering your gain for example will increase the piro rate. Be aware of this when your tweaking your settings!

11. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE ARBITRARY NUMBER YOUR GAIN ENDS UP TO BE! If it works IT WORKS! If your buddy walks up with a totally different machine and a totally different gyro and is saying things like "16 percent gain! Your way too low I'm running 80 percent!" don't worry! Every gyro is different and every machine is different. Gain numbers ARE NOT UNIVERSAL and it's not a contest or a race. Find your own settings that works for you.

I've replaced the KB blades with Hyperion carbon blades. It made it better, but I couldn't get rid of the wagging without loosing the tail. Anyways, I decided to turn the governor on and now it's just a matter of tunning the gain, since I still have a tiny bit of wagging and the tail is holding fine.

I was thinking and my tail issues started since I swapped the 12T with the 13T pinion on the 430XL motor, but that was with the GY401. I thought I wouldn't have any issues with the G770, but that proved wrong, so far. At least things are getting better, as I make adjustments (one at a time, of course).

Thanx for the link. The stock tape sure seems too soft. I am gonna try this tape.
