Not bad, that's good practice. I'd recommend that you learn them flipping the disc away from you instead of towards you though, like Nick does in the video. "half flip out". Either way is fine, and towards yourself looks cool (I'm working on those now) but away from yourself is easier, safer, and will tie into other maneuvers more easily.

So basically flip forward rather then backwards

Can see where it's heading. You are on the right path.

As TheVortex3d said, the most common piro-flip is forward, but back is OK too.

One thing is that you are only using the one correction at a time (ie, from tail-in, nose-up using elevator and centre, turn 90 degrees, then aileron roll to inverted, etc... - watch the right stick on your video and you will see what I mean). One thing that characterizes a piro-flip is 2 axis moves. Ie. the start the flip with elevator, but then smoothly cycle round to aileron as the tail turns.

Keep up the good work. I can see you grasping the fundamentals of the move. Just practice to keep making it better and better.

I tried to "blend" it into one movement but it kept throwing me off. I think it will just come naturally with more practice

Keep it up.

I would say don't even switch to flipping away. Stay with what you have. It's the same movements, just in a different direction. Plus, if you master the inwards piro flip, you will be able to do something not even many very good pilots can do. Then you can move on to flipping away.
Keep at it, it will come piece by piece.
