It is related to the known USB problem. Please use a USB hub if you have one until the fix is available.

Spork do yourself a favor and pick up a Datapod. Not only is it a temporary workaround for the software glitch, its also a valuable tuning aid. I know its another $65, but it can be used on multiple units...and trust me once you get it in the air you'll buy another.

I didnt feel a need to buy the usb just to use the spartan.

My persistent has finally paid off. The first time around I tried setting up the vx1e with my trusty desktop that was running win vista. Complete failure. Spent nearly 2 hours reading and setting up meticulously only to have it wiped out ...twice

I just used my laptop that is running win 7 and the settings finally saved . Finally got the blue light after setup and power cycled it a couple of times to confirm.

If I have the unit powered up and plug the usb into my pc, the servos and esc goes crazy at the touch of usb entering the pc but stops after its fully in.

In conclusion this unit is not fully tested before going to market. I would highly suggest to disengage the motor completely when setting up your heli with this device. I dont feel safe with it.

Hopefully a flight performance can erase the bad taste in my mouth

Is this the same datapod?

How big and heavy is it? This is going on my trex 450 pro. Do I have to keep connected after setup?

It's 11.6 grams with a piece of velcro on the back. (The rough side not the furry side)

It's 46mm x 25mm x 12.5mm.

It's not a FBL issue, its a software issue in the Spartan Studio/VX1e not playing nice with some OS (I too have Vista, and mine did the same as yours). The link you posted is the Datapod. It is small, close in size to the VX1 itself. You do not have to leave it connected in flight unless you want to use the remote gain function (highly recommended till you get it dialed in perfect).

You have to keep in mind that the VX1e is the first Spartan unit to have direct USB. All the others have used the DP as a pass through or a complete setup tool. Honestly, you can do the complete setup with the DP very, very easy.

You will need to update the firmware in the Datapod before it will communicate with the VX1e. It takes all of about 2min, the firmware is available for download on Spartans site.
