From the videos I've seen on the Protos, it looks like it can't auto to save it's life.
The head looks like it spools down waaay too fast.

What's the deal with that?
It should be the least amount of resistance out there to spin.

With a good twist of the hand, mine will go around four or five times. It's all about the belt tension. Mine autos just fine, no problem.

As john said with this heli it is about the tension being set good and the belt and system being bedded in. It autos far better then the 500 t-rex that is for sure. I however do not understand why so many peeps think it is so ballisitc on 15tooth and stock as well... it is not imho. The stock motor is a frying pan and 15tooth is not enough HS imho. Overall it is a decent little heli though, a better bang per buck over the 500 rexxy.

I feel its insane because I have never flown anything with such a quick vertical, be it deception of size or whatever it may be for me its the fastest I have flown or have seen fly(Logo 600 at IRCHA were very close) (about 15 funlys in now including IRCHA)

450 V1 medusa, mega, stock
450 V2 stock
600 6s, 14S A123, Stock, Actro 24-3, NEU 1912/1y
Logo 10 10S A123
Raptor 50 modified crank and modded carb
Gaui 200 (not really a comparison)
Centrury Hawk (Not really a comparison)

but this heli does make the hair stand up on my neck. For "Me" its insane
I have mine configured now at +13/-13 and it is still nuts, 7S A123 stock motor

I do agree with you the motor gets way way too hot, seeing my actro runs about 45 volts continuous and comes down slightly warm.

I am also a sports flyer not a 3d pilot yet.

425mm blades are only going to auto so well you can't expect a whole lot. My 500 shoots autos slightly better than a brick. The last brick I flew had a bit more hang time actually.

Have you tried removing some or all of the weight from the paddles? I find that removing half the weight is just about perfect for most flying styles.

On my second flight the adapter screws came loose...
And i was forced to Auto it in, was my first successful auto rotation ever in real life..
Used a fair amount of negative pitch, and it came in pretty hard, but the gorilla gear is great, it bounced ....
It's indeed the belt-tension that needs some care.
It NEEDS a flat-spot on the motor shaft btw...

Shawn,
For most guys, like me, who step-up from a 450...
This heli is ballistic
What headspeed do you want to run, 2800-3000?
With the jazz i fly it at 2600 Rpm, i think i can crank it up to 2700 Rpm..
And the motor gets hot indeed, but it doesn't lose any power..
How does it compare to the logo's in flight character and in general btw??

Eric

First of all to other guys question, yes I took out the weights of course, still slow on cyclic. Yes I feel sincerely that 2800-2900 is the ticket for Headspeed on this heli. As far as comparison to Logos, well it certainly is no wheres near as precise to the Logos at all, as stated it is a better buy imho than the 500 rex for sure, but it lacks good tracking throughout manuvers imho.

Thanks Shawn,

I asked because I see little detailed feedback from guys who fly it at the limit, i can't push it that far yet .
although a lot of guys are still testing things, a new heli needs a lot and good feedback to evt.improve..
What i like most about it till now is the hangtime and power compared to my 450..

Eric

Shawn,
I've been told that moving the Bell input balls on the mixing levers to the outer holes makes a big, positive change with respect to tracking and feeling like a bit larger heli. You'll need to increase the swash mix values to reset your collective range and cylic pitch.

Gscott,
No, I haven't as I've just been having fun with it but do plan to try it. I have no reason to doubt the gentleman who tried and told me it really helps. He's a great pilot who's really good at feeling out the finer details of heli setup.

Default Power and RPM

Sorry to say, that last youtube video is not a good representation of the Protos. No offense to the pilot, but the head speed is not where it should be, and I would also doubt the ESC and battery packs used. When you have a solid power system and higher head speed (within reason) the the disk rpm virtually appears to never change. It flies allot more authoritative with the power and rpm combination I mentioned. All maneuvers will appear differently then.
