Default 468 mph, new world speed record for a model glider

Dynamic soaring, don't blink or you'll miss it

I think the Radian is more my speed

Check the comments on the video: MIT prof estimates that it was pulling an airspeed of 550 mph during portions of the trajectory that weren't on radar.

Default Pito Tube

The need to install a small pito tube on the plane to get a correct reading of actual airspeed that would be sweet.

The thing is I bet you have a higher number on the radar gun, just a guess but I bet its traveling faster across the ground than through the air.

pitot static system would account for head/tail wind so it may be higher or lower
the radar gun doesnt care if its in the air on the ground its just measuring the Doppler shift for the radio wave bouncing off the model this will give you ground speed not IAS
again the IAS may be higher or lower then the ground speed based on a number of factors

I thought thats what I just said. I didn't feel like talking about position error, the effects of temperature and pressure on a pitot and or static system, and the changes on IAS as the wind shears from a head to tail wind. Or the cosign effect while using radar (a radar's I indication of speed is only accurate when the object being shot is traveling directly to or away from the radar antenna).

It would be really interesting if someone would install a telemetry unit with the pitot tube and compare numbers with a radar gun. Or even just to see how big the fluctuations in IAS would be as a glider accelerated to over 400 MPH.
