Thanks for the video. I will be setting up my first Kontronik ESC (a Jive 100+LV) and appreciate any help I can get in doing it properly.

Please do more videos demonstrating using the ESC's governor setup.

Thanks.

Thank you for the post. I do hope the videos will be helpful. I will be adding videos on other products, so I will look at trying to incorporate information on the governor setup in a video.

I thought there were some problem with the bailout fuction in the beginning.. ? Are they solved yet?

Can you still calibrate the trottle now with this bailout?

I am unaware of any problem with the bailout function. If setup during programming it works as designed.

KONTRONIK does not recommend any type of throttle calibration. All KONTRONIK ESCs are designed with intelligent algorithms which allow them to "learn" your throttle travel range during programming.

So what about the deadband afther programming?a lot had to set there end point about 83 on high and low for futaba tx to get a full range.

This was false information and not needed the Jive knows your end points but uses a different scale. you cant expect linear throttle output when you are using governor functions. there will be a follow on video with proper TX setup soon.

Bullet,

The most simple answer is that the calibration process you have seen discussed on forums is not necessary. It does not change the performance of the KONTRONIK Esc. All KONTRONIK controllers are designed to automatically learn your full throttle range during programming.

These past discussions of calibration have created confusion. We hope that in the future, with proper education, we may avoid these confusions.

KONTRONIK products are designed for ease of use and performance, we hope that the videos will help current and future owners realize the elegance of simplicity.

And can you please clear something up about the KSA mode.To use ore not to use on the scorpion motors.

Bullet,

The answer concerning KSA mode is not as simple as saying yes or no. First I will try to give you a little more information about the Kontronik Special Application Mode (KSA).

Kontronik designs its ESCs to work best with Kontronik motors. Kontronik motors are designed to be Powerful, Efficient, and will have a lower inductance than many other motors. This along with manufacturing process is why they are a cooler running motor than many others on the market. If you have the opportunity to feel a Kontronik motor and a comparable sized Brand X motor after the same type of flight you will immediately notice the Brand X motor is very hot, while the Kontronik motor is relatively cool in comparison.

While Scorpion motors are in general powerful, they may have higher inductance and lower efficiency, possibly why they run so much hotter than a Kontronik motor. Due to manufacturing variability some of their motors may have a higher inductance requirement than others, these motors may require the use of the KSA mode. Therefore some, but not all, Scorpion motors may require the use of the KSA mode.

To me, an easier way to explain this situation is that Kontronik ESCs are expecting to have a normal conversation when paired with any motor. Some motors need to be yelled at to perform, which the Kontronik Esc sees as a problem as they don't like to yell. KSA mode is then used to talk to a motor that can't understand a normal level of conversation.

I hope this explanation helps to explain the Kontronik KSA mode.

Concerning the second question, the self learning process occurs with all Kontronik ESCs.

Thank you very mutch for that clear explanation! Not sure what to do on the KSA maybe ill give it a shot without on my scorpion. I do also have a kontronik motor setup which runs very cool indeed..

If you are experienced in autorotation.. But that (a big fat commutation failure) may kill already the polarity reversal detecting item in a JIVE, a diode (7 blinks at powerup).

Okay, that's your thing. No risk, no fun. ... and Kontronik pays the bill..

Hi Charles, I was going to do one with the Kosmik but wont now Can I make a suggestion although you probably have thought of this but can you include how to connect and program it with the Progdisc. Maybe explain a little what some of the functions in the Progdisc are as these are common questions

Hi I was wondering if you can point me in the right direction.

This is my first electric heli and i got the helijive.

Please can you advise how i should set it up...

THE CURRENT STEPS THAT I HAVE TAKEN ARE:

Mode 1 - reset (completed)
Mode 4 - heli mode (completed)

Question is, do i now proceed to do Mode 5 as per your video?

Am i done then?

Sorry i'm very confused and like you say the maual does not help much either.

Thank you in advance

If you would like to use mode 5 instead of mode 4 you already programmed, Just reprogram mode 1 and 5 and you done. Mode 1 resets the ESC to default.
