Any advise on what will be better for my 520mm setup/mid boom-belt/CF blades (I have 1100KV, 6S):

a/ 15-50-19-61, that is HS of 2280-2050 (100%-90% eff), Idle: 100-95-90-95-100
b/ 13-42-19-61 that is HS of 2240-2000 (95%-85% eff), Idle: 95-90-85-90-95

Or it does not really matter as the diff is so small?

15 / 50 - it gives more teeth engaged and less likely to encounter stripping issues

Will the alight 520 blade work on the medium boom upgrade? I thought it would be 500mm max.

Based upon measuring the Hurri it looks as if they should - I think that Jack has some to test (I haven't got any yet)

Might also depend on what size tail blades you are using, or if you are using a different tail hub that makes the tail rotor disk larger. You might get some blade contact, I dunno.

Good point - I measured using standard hub and standard blades - there is about 40mm - 45mm clearance with this config (not quite enough for 550mm blades)

Is that taking into account the blades might flex down in flight and dampeners compress? Might be useful to measure a line from the center of the main hub to the center of the tail hub and calculate if the discs could interact.

Also is there a minimal clearence needed to prevent nasty things like a tailgrip breaking from the force of a close main rotor wash?

I did some measurements... all standard plastic parts, 550-type-tail blades, mid boom.

1. If I do the line between the tail shaft and main one (on the level of main blades grips) there is about 690mm space. If I sum up main shaft-main blades (575mm) distance and tail shaft-tail blades (112mm) I got... 687mm. So basically if the main blades would flex so much that they would be in perfect line with the tail blade axis/shaft they would miss each other by 3mm. I guess such a big flex is by far not possible in the normal flight so from that angle it looks OK.

2. If you look from the top the distance between the main shaft and the tail one (on the level of the boom) is roughly 668mm. Taking into consideration the above (575+112) there is an overlap of about 19mm. Don't know how much (if at all) does it influence the tail blades functioning...

3. If you measure the distance between the very end of the main blade (blades oriented horizontally) and tail shaft you get about 180mm of space, deducting 112mm gives you 68mm free room for the blades not to strike.

So, what do you say freaks?

I'd say the 520mm's would work with the medium boom, may be cutting it close if you have 92mm tail blades.

The medium boom belt setup is (i think) roughly the same size as the x5 boom length (frame to tail box) and that bird can swing up to 520's as well.
