In my latest doc, Governor section for Setup 2/2G, I did mention the possible alternative:

Pos 2: -100% -Captain Rescue (or another positive value for self-level since we already have Trainer as CR)

Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Good idea. I've been trying to figure out if a trim or dial could be used to only adjust sl gain without impacting 0 for rigid. But two sl modes is better than one.

Updated to v2.2: added example of how to set up Trainer + Gear switch (instead of Rudder switch).

You select N12H, M should not be selected

Make sure to test CR with gear switch at both positions to be sure that you get less that -100 in both positions.

Reposting from my original post (so readers don't have to follow the links).

Disassembled and re-assembled my DX8. Took photos showing the various buttons and switches exploded.

Switches in normal positions (swapped back and finger tightened only). Notice I have already swapped labels for my actual layout. Note also that the nuts on the outside of the DX8 holding in the button and switch are notched. The right size screwdriver and these undo easily. 500 size ball link pliers are not big enough to bridge the button, maybe 700 size ones would be.

Gear switch disassembled. The silver washer and the black washer go inside the DX8, the switch pokes through and the silver nut tightens to lock switch in place.

Bind switch disassembled. This is the one you probably had issues with. Once the outer (high) nut is undone, the button will not pop out. The black button cap has to come off separate from the button to allow this to come out. The button cap just sits in the housing by friction. There is now screw or thead on the inside of the black button cap.

Reassembled and ready for duty. This is the configuration I use for my DX8 for use with BD3SX.

My DX8 settings for my X5 that has a BD3SX with rescue enabled.

Yes. Mix 5 and Mix 6 are the same. You can verify (on the monitor or mix screens) that the Gov channel goes to -150% regardless of where the Gov switch is when the bind button is pressed.
My Gaui X5 control path is DX8 -> AR8000 (+ sat + TM1000) -> loom -> BD3SX. My Gaui X5 also has separate BEC (2 output connectors). Throttle is direct from AR8000 -> ESC. Voltage wire from ESC to AR8000 is removed (so ESC's BEC is not being used). BEC connects to USB port and Servo 3 port on BD3SX (remove USB BEC connection to program BD3SX - also remove blades and optionally unplug throttle connection from AR8000 ).

Hope this helps people.

I found a way of mixing out aileron and elevator inputs based on a SW.

I just posted it in the "JR and Spektrum Radios and Electronics > 2.4G Spektrum Radios" forum. Works through the monitor screen, now for a field test.

BD3SX rescue with auto level

My X5 mixes are for rescue facility on the BD3SX and mix Aux3 to pull the Aux2 channel to full negative when the Aux3 goes to -100 (Aux3 is assigned to my bind button, Aux2 channel is the BD3SX SL channel and assigned to the Gov switch).

To pull the Aux2 channel to full negative when the Aux3 goes to -100 I use the following single mix.

Mix 6 - Ax3 > Ax2 0% -125% 100% (f.mode N12H)

As the Aux 3 channel moves from +100 (no change) to -100, its change relative to the offset is -200 (200%), so -250 (or 2*-125) is applied to the Aux2 channel. This single mix ensures that no matter what the value of the self level (I have only up to 45%), it will pull it to full negative.

The last bit of magic, is during this rescue, I also want to centre the cyclics (elevator and aileron). I was told this cannot be done (which is why the investigation into mixing). I found a way.

Mix 1 - Ax3 > Ail 0% -125% 100% (f.mode N12H)
Mix 2 - Ax3 > Ail 0% 75% 100% (f.mode N12H)
Mix 3 - Ax3 > Ele 0% -125% 100% (f.mode N12H)
Mix 4 - Ax3 > Ele 0% 75% 100% (f.mode N12H)

Like the previous Aux2 channel, I pull the channel, hard to it's bottom limit (wiht Mix 1 and Mix 3). With Mix 2 and 4, I push it back to the dead center.

Now my BD3SX rescue auto-levels on my DX8
...
The rest of the post explains how DX8 mixing actually works. May be worth a read to the curious.

Correction to my original post on mixes.

The Ax2 channel disappears (and is replaced by "gov") if you enable the Governor to allow you to set the values of the 3 position switch.

So to correct the post (I added the correction to the end of the "2.4G Spektrum Radios" thread).

To pull the Gov channel to full negative when the Aux3 goes to -100 I use the following single mix.

Mix 3 - Ax3 > Ele 0% -125% 100% (f.mode N12H)
Mix 4 - Ax3 > Ele 0% 75% 100% (f.mode N12H)

It's only a minor correction but it did confuse someone.
