this might be one for redbird
so here is the problem..im buying a usb powered device which is really kool but i was wondering what would i need to do to make this thingy mobile ie running on batterys so it can be placed anywere. i dont want to damage the unit as it quite expencive so im thinking of getting a female usb connector and hooking the wires up to a battery. yep and now you see why im stuck

Antony, there are dozens of emergency USB chargers out there for cellphones that are based on Li-Ion internal battery, like this one:

Smaller ones can give you 0.5-1.0A, bigger ones will supply your device with maximum 2.0A.

Now, if your USB powered device needs more than 2.0Amps, you probably need to build a power supply by yourself, I'd take 2s LiPo, a stand-alone BEC of proper capacity (3A or 5A, there are no USB-powered devices that need more than 5A) set to 5V output, and just solder a proper BEC-USB cable. Simple.
