Default Worth grabbing this one?

I've been offered an used G5, it's not FBL but I inted to rebuild it into one if I get it. As I understand, the heli is discontinued but how's the access to spare parts? Are Outrage making spare parts for it anymore, or am I gonna be all over the net to get parts as with my Gaui 200?

Not all over the net, there werent many shops that stocked parts in its heyday. Helidirect was always my main source, and i just checked today and see that some of the parts now have an ETA, meaning they are coming back into stock soon. (It might even mean outrage is making more, or maybe just clearing old stock, dont know-they wont answer forums or emails). Several things are trex 450 compatible...main and trail drive gears, main shafts and it seems like something else, this helps. Oh, flybars. Kinda irrelevant if you go FBL

I love my two G5s and have my eye on the new compass warp for when i eventually tire or run out of spares (at current flight frequency i think these birds might outlive me though...)

The FBL conversion is pretty easy, but if i were to do it all over again i might try a different 450 head, the FBL stock head isnt the greatest, it its defense, it was i think 08 when it came out so credit to charlie for doing it all. I fly a 3x1000/ZYX fbl gyro on mine and would be happy to share the settings. I have an ar7200bx on my X5 and the setup was a bit easier on the zyx with the USB cable. The only issue i have with it i can blow out the tail about 30 degrees if i try really hard. ( i used my new pitch gauge 2 from RC logger on this bird last night and discovered i had nearly 16 degrees of pitch at full throw and 11 of cyclic...turns out 'eyeballing' it the first time wasnt super accurate and MAY explain the tail blowout )
Flies like a dream otherwise. the FB'd model is awesome in its own right, the adjustable head is a piece of art and Ill keep one FB'd as long as i have parts.

All that said, if you can get one cheap/in good shape and maybe with some spares theres a wealth of knowledge in here, we just dont post often any more.

And since im here posting, ill throw up mine, all dressed up for Halloween.

i still think the G5 looks awesome, discontinued or not.

After througly cheking the spares supply I decided against it, I don't want to spend 3 days to find parts if (when) I dig it in and need major spares...

--EDIT-- I was going to offer to purchase the G5 if you didn't want it but missed the location being in Norway so have to pass on this one.

I have 2 G5 brand new.
One FB (still in the box) and one FBL that I put the frame together and stopped there. Had too many helis and forgot about these.
What is funny is that many companies are coming out with "new designs" that were incorporated in the G5 some time ago.
I bought them because they were for 6S batts and 10+ minutes flightimes.
I really like the way they look and their design. Like a TDR or something.
Yesterday I was thinking about stretching my 450 3GX and then I remembered I had these G5's.
Thinking about building them or selling both. Not sure.

+1 the flybar head is great, while the fbl has a lot of play.
still fies good, but I guess fbl unit is doing great job !

do you know which other fbl heads could easyly be used on a G5 ?

The rjx 450 fbl head works fantastic on the g5 with recommended servo ball distance shown in the g5 manual.
