The basic principle of making a brushless motor move is to change phase to the windings for magnetic field to reverse and attract the next magnet with opposite pole. So the more pole changes within a revolution means that it requires more phase changes to finish a revolution.
Pinion of course determines final gear ratio and therefore headspeed for a given motor speed. |

In my understanding this is similar. Say I have a 10000 kv motor running with 3.7 V - it will make 37000 rpm. And if I would use a 15000 kv motor, it should have 50% more, so 55500 rpm. I see what you mean. I was suspecting that was your real question.
The reason why kV doesn't matter is that the # represents no-load motor speed per Volt. In BLHeli context, the code controls how fast the motor turns so the only thing kV matters is whether the motor can achieve certain speed because we know supply voltage and kV we know theoretical max speed. And that's the whole point of black or red text on the "Governor Setup Target" field. |

BLHeli-Setup serial interface solution
I have a serial port on my PC.
How can I link this to my Oversky 10A ESC PNP V3 to be able to use the BLHeli Setup software? Do I need any other hardware, or just a connector that fits? thanks, Paul |

No usb ...arduino it is then. Honestly best all round option, pretty much can do everything you'll want to do with ESC.

Yes I have a USB port I was just wondering if having a serial port makes it easier. Maybe even connect directly?

Still need an Arduino + servo lead, Arduino Uno be your best bet and cheapest

A direct serial connection is not possible, because of the signal level (and the speed/timing would be a problem).
The easiest is to buy a Toolstick clone like the Oversky, from Dylan or where ever You find it. It has the right plug for Your BESC. BTW: Only if You have the skills and an avr programmer: My favorite option would be to buy a Robbe Box (available in UK!) and build a programming Box for BLHeli.

Changes in 9.2: Exchanged BLHeli 9.0 against fixed 9.1 hex files. Added Firmware for the serial/usb Box interfaces to ignore Bug in BLHeli 9.0. (RBBX Box V6 / TDLX Box V3 / Arduino Uno w. Shield V3) Added BLHeli 9.2 Hex files. Adapted defaults for Beacon Delay. Have a nice Weekend!

I now have an arduino nano v3 and the connector to fit my oversky 10A ESC
but I can't get a connection to the ESC. I have used BLHeli setup to make a arduino nano pro stick and this flashes Ok. No errors. I have connected C2D to Yellow (white), C2CK to Red and GND to black on my mini JST connector. but I get this message when trying to connect "Connection to interface failed, Please check usb/serial ort and power connections to the interface" What order do I have to connect things? To USB, to ESC, to battery?? any ideas what i have done wrong? Thanks |

Here are some pictures of my connections. Maybe I was a bit keen to get the permanent glue on, but I can always re-solder at the board. Did I make a mistake here? |

No, there is not connection to the interface
I guess You did not choose the right file to make the stick Arduino_m328P16v01.hex should be the right one for You.
