4 tanks on the first 55hz today in about high 40's F weather. Hands were freezing .
Motor was absolutely a beast. Needed to go 1/4 turn richer on the mid and a couple clicks on the main needle to get it happy in this cold weather. Still running the Align muffler for now, and will probably do so the rest of this season as the power is great, and I don't really want to mess with anything now that it's broken in, and time is so limited in flying here before the snow flies

Not sure how much the power had to do with the cold weather and how much was just straight motor power. Anyway, the Velocity 50 was bouncing around the sky with MORE power than my 90's in normal spring/summer weather. Tic tocs were effortless and aileron tic tocs were fast and insane .

My LHS got three OS .55 engines this week and I almost bought one today. The only thing stopping me was the thought of my current credit card balance and that fact that I'll still have two other helis I can fly. I found it interesting when comparing the .55 side-by-side with the .50 that the head is shorter on the .55 due to the fins being closer together.

yup. the head on the hyper 50 was a bit of a tight fit into the raptor 50, so OS made the 55 a little more compact.

Hello

I'm from Switzerland and would like to order an OS 55 Hz-H and Hatori muffler 556 in Japan. Would it be possible that someone could send me a good and cheap address.

Thanks and Best regards, Andy

Here's a good thread with Bert's comparisons of the various pipes. He seems to like the OS more than the Hatori but he says they're all very close in power; ease of tuning is the distinguishing factor.

It looks like I'm going to get a new OS 55 sooner rather than later. I had some stock that hit my long-time target price yesterday, so I cashed in.

I have no worries. I got out of it what I put in plus enough to pay taxes, so the remainder is free money to gain or lose.

The US prices are around $299 for the engine and $130 for the OS pipe (according to Tower Hobbies). It appears that the pipes may be delayed in the US and most places don't have the engines; I just lucked out that my LHS got three of them and they're holding one for me.

So far, I'm impressed with the "little things" as I'm in the process of swapping engines. The o-ring on the backplate is a major improvement IMO, as is the crank that allows you to see the rear bearing without having to disassemble the engine or even remove it from the heli!!

Alan,
The LHS here told me that funtech is making the OS pipe and that is why they both look the same. Having said that, since Bert limes the OS better than the SAB, maybe the funtech pipe is the way to go considering price. What are you thoughts?

I'm trying my Hatori SAB-50 first, since I already have it. I don't know yet what I'll do if I decide I need more; a lot depends on others' experiences with the FunTech pipe.

According to Tower Hobbies, the OS pipe will be $130. Still, $80 sounds much better.
