Default Singel or dual PSU for PL8x2

Would it be better using two 1500w meanwell psu's vs one 3000w psu?
I am thinking going with a 48V 3000W psu for my setup. But if its better using two 48V 1500W psu's i will have to consider if the price increase isn't worth it.

Not sure what the cost difference is. But list of advantages two supplies.
  • Two supplies will give you the flexibility of running from separate breakers. If you have 220v AC in your hobby area, that's not an issue.
  • Two supplies are better for the each channel. Each channel of the charger's load pulses the supply. This pulsing is not ideal power for the alternate channel. Its not an issue. Just not ideal.
  • If you have two supplies and one fails, you have an operational spare. The alternate channel can be wired into the working supply until a replacement is available.

Thank you. Its good to know its not harmfull to the charger or the supply atleast.
Two PSU's are quite a bit more expensive, $827 for two 1500W vs $483 for a single 3000W. Plus there is the added weight, almost double running two psu's.

That's quite a bit of cost and weight savings.

I'm using a single 48V 1500W power supply myself. It won't max out my DP8x2, but for field charging I'm limited to a 2kW inverter generator.

Given the price difference, the single supply looks like the better choice. However, I believe that unit requires 220v AC. So its a less attractive option for us in the states when we only use 220v in the laundry rooms and kitchens
