Building up T960 need camera recomendations

I've been flying aerial videography as a hobby for a couple of years working on miscellaneous projects as I can. I've shot all of my footage with a go pro, but I'd like to start to expand my capabilities with my tarot T960. A photographer friend of mine have talked a few times about cameras and some of the pros and cons of a lot of different cameras. Most recently we have talked about the Nikon 5100/7100, Lumix gh3, sony nex5, and the black magic pocket camera. My budget for now is probably around $500 but I might be able to stretch a little if I really need to.

Any input or suggestions would be welcome.
