Default Larger NX4 Tank

Nope. I do not want to run a header tank.

Anyone have an idea on another tank that would fit?

Would like 10 min sport flights. Can barely eek out 6-7 mins

There's no room to expand the tank any further even if you made a custom one. The only other option is going with a 37 or even 32 size motor

You might be able to expand it by 4mm in the back but thats about it. But then you might run in to rubbing issues on the frame. Doesn't seem worth it.

You could on one side but the exhaust on the other side would interfere.
You'll also have to make your own tank as I don't think you'll find anything fitting with the stock mount. Nothing impossible but lot of work.
Best option might be to add a bigger "header tank": and use it like an additional tank. With the rarity of parts for the NX4, maybe best to find something more recent with bigger tank ;-)

You also have the tail rotor pushrod on the other side so you're pretty limited on your options. Best bet to fly it as a .37 with 420 blades.

No shortage of parts for Gaui's though plenty of parts out there. Gaui's support for their heli's IMO is better than horizon at this point with some of their models being over 15 y/o. AnythingHeli got all the parts you need if in US and there are bunch of UK and Japan distributers if in EU.

Nice, ya I have been looking at X4II recently because the frame can handle up to 6s 5000mah that would be a great practice bird with plenty of flight time.

You can also run it lean to get more flight time

Yes! I'm a tad rich right now. I could go normal at least. But temps keep going from mid to upper 60s to 40s. So it's a messy time.

I'm hard pressed to get 5 minutes on my synergy 556 with a header, and that's not flying it too hard.... getting a woody thinking about a gas conversion

Yeah. I'm used to 9 and some change on my glogo 690 and 8 to 9 on my kraken 580.

So I don't think there's any way to add a larger physical tank, nor is there much room to 'create' one. A header is the only logical option for increased flight time. You can only do so much to this heli. You can try a different engine/engine rebuild/retune of the engine.

I'm running a stock NX4 with 426 mains/OS .37 without a header and getting 7 min-ish. Headspeeds are 2550 and 2650.

I'd say your flight times are in line with design parameters. If you can find an OS .32 and pipe for it (Curtis Youngblood MP3) you can shave some weight, and reduce fuel consumption at the cost of power.

Not sure what type of flying you're doing, or trying to achieve, but the stock set up (OS .37 and 425 mains) isn't exactly overpowered to begin with.

If you're after an increase in flight time, then I would suggest finding a T-10 conversion to run as a gasser.

The NX4 is a great little heli, for what it is, but it's 10 years old at this point, so somewhat limited on capabilities.

Sure you could strap another tank on the bottom and add bigger skids. What's that going to add in the weight department and how will that affect CG possibly, and also flight capability?

If overall flight time is the main concern, the OP would be better off strapping an aux tank on a 600/700 nitro.

thickfog, another idea, a scale fuse could allow more room inside. Happy flying

Well, get this story.

I was doing a final test flight for my sale of this thing. Something I do to make sure it's a OK and buyer sees it flying.

During start I'm getting sick of the puddle of fuel this thing leaves on the table so I look and fuel is coming from somewhere but I can't tell where. So I go on to the flight.

So I'm flying and land. Great flight. I take her inside and notice the low needle is gone! It came out in flight! Wtf.

So I changed the engine to a new in box is 37 I had sitting around.

I ordered parts from RC japan to fix the other engine to do a semi rebuild.
All new o rings obviously needed for the carb and engine.

Anyway with new engine, 2 hover break in flights and an easy flight and a normal to me style flight and holy crap was flight time way up there compared to ol' leaky.

I should have noticed that the amount of fuel leaking during, after and from start was off on this older engine. It was used and always like this, so never gave it too much thought. I mean this thing was a damn mess. Literal puddles on the table when starting and ending. Duh tho. My glogo, nexus 30 and 580n do not do this. But patterns for me are my worst thing to notice.

Figured OK maybe I'm running rich, etc etc.

I think I had a large leak thus killing my flight time.

Time will tell as I get into more and more normal running.

If so this thing is not for sale as it is pure awesome as long as flight times are somewhat better than what it was on old leaky.
I'm also glad this happened exactly when it did and I did not sell it like this.

wow thanks for sharing the update. I would have figured it was running rich too. Glad you found the culprit

You're welcome. Yeah I hope to continue flying now to see how much better the flight time is with a non leaking motor.

Unfortunately with earley darkness, rain and insane winds lately I've had no heli flying since last Sat. I really want a few more flights on this thing to see where it stands.

Shame to sell it for what I have into it and the amount of spares I have. It's such a great yard size and travel size for me.

Glad to hear you found a fix. The NX4 is such a great heli.
