Default Do I need VBar adaptor for Ikon gov w/YGE?

Gents,

Going nuts trying to get the governor in my Ikon and 120 YGE setup. I have gone through all the videos, read every thread I can find and still can't seem to get it right. Both the Ikon and YGE have been calibrated with the throttle and all worked fine with just basic throttle curves. I have noticed that if I disconnect the short cable from the YGE and the Ikon governor cable, the ESC will arm normally (though it won't run), but when I have the short cable/gov lead connected, the ESC just glows bright orange, indicating it is not seeing low throttle.

I found one thread that indicates that I might need to make a vbar adaptor cable, even with the Ikon. Is this true?

Getting to the point of just going back to throttle curves, which seemed to work fine.

Thanks!

D.W.

For anyone who stumbles across this in the future...apparently the answer is yes, I do need the adaptor cable to hook the Ikon up to the YGE and use the external governor. I'll give it a try and hopefully that will solve all my issues.

errr... I have the same setup - Ikon with YGE 120 HV on my Goblin 570 and all I needed was the Hobbywing Phase sensor connected between the Ikon and two lead off the motor.

You don't need a ext phase sensor with YGE. They have one built in. You just have to wire it right. There's a difference in how you wire a HV and LV.

Ok, so what's this magic secret Ikon-YGE governor adapter to make the YGE's vbar-compatiable gov output work with the Ikon???

Any links? Videos? Schematics? And is this only for YGE HV's or all YGE or what? Do share

You only need the cable on the HV version.

That's a big honking capacitor there -- you building a railgun for your heli??? LOLOLOLOLOL

Ok, so this adapter cable is only for YGE HV versions, which are opto-isolated. It looks like you took a YGE opto cable and joined ground and signal together and ran that to one pin on a JR connector and red cable to another JR pin, thus the 2 pins input to the Ikon gov adapter cable? Is the red cable carrying throttle signal -- 'cause on YGE HV's it doesn't have a BEC, so it's either throttle or used for programming?

thanks

On HV's the red wire carries the rpm signal. You have to join the ground and signal wire together to prevent noise on the red wire.

I wired mine up today... It works fine on the bench with the blades off...
Brain gets rpm reading, governor works fine as does my bailout.

going to test in on the field tomorrow...

see the pic.
It may no be too clear to see, the red cable is soldered to the grey cable going into the Brain gov port and the black cable is soldered to the black cable going into the gov port.

ESC is: YGE 160HV

Op is using LV ESC's. Does not need that cable.

I'm sorry ;-)

I read something about a HV YGE so I thought i'ld chime in. Just my 2 cents.

It's late here in Belgium, almost 2 AM and we just beat USA in the Fifa Worldcup LOL

Actually I was talking about the HV version of the controller, but realized I never actually said that. I ended up making the adaptor cable and with no other changes I was able to get the ESC to arm. Unfortunately, I've been so busy with other projects and work that I haven't gone any further then that. Hopefully next weekend I'll get some time to try it all again and see if I can make it work.
