Default 14SG Firmware upgrade 5.0 WARNING!!!

FRSKY USERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT THE FUTABA FIRMWARE UPDATE 5.0 HAS CHANGED THE PROTOCOL WHERE GENERIC RECEIVERS MAY DISCONNECT AFTER A LINK IS ESTABLISHED!

See post....#5369

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...8#post30106425

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
There are many pages to read through regarding this topic. Sounds like there's a lot of different opinions and regions involved. I'm passing it along because we all have to be careful out there and definitely don't want the surprise of a loss in link.

Looks like I will never be able to upgrade again since I have quite a few old FrSky FASST receivers. I think it is just Futaba's way of discouraging after market products.

Maybe I will just sell al my Futaba stuff and get a FrSky transmitter.

.

I wouldn't. Make sure you read the second link. Looks like this only affects EU radios.

I've never been let down by any of my Futaba products, at least regarding the FASST protocol. I know I wouldn't chance a 700 bird, or a human life on a generic rx. This isn't a jab at any particular brand, it's just not worth the risk for high dollar, dangerous model like most of us fly.

Remember Futaba has no control over Frsky, Orange rx, etc. They're only are obligated to themselves.

Will the install program allow you to go back to a previous version?
If I install V5 and don't like can I go back to V4?

I'm not sure if firmware will allow you to go back. You can always try downloading an earlier firmware version to see if it works. No guarantees though since some devices have bootloaders that can be locked down from previous firmwares.

From what I've read on the other forum, it sounds like US radios are running fine on the update.

North Americans, pay no mind to this warning, keep calm and read the second link. You radio contains a region code. To comply with new EU regulations this 5.0 update and the problems with 3rd party receivers will only affect you if you have a European radio.

I don't have a 14SG but as a 7C user, it is on my upgrade list and why I took interest in this thread. Incidentally, I'm using two FrSky S-Bus receivers and two regular FrSky "Futaba Compatible" 7CH receivers. These are not cloned products. Brand snobbery aside, are these rock-solid, quality units that I don't intend to replace unless leaving the Futaba family entirely.

FYI, I do have a genuine Futaba rx in one of my helis.
