Default Interesting And Expensive Fault

I thought my story of an expensive repair might be interesting for you all. So here it is:

While flying I crashed twice because my good old 130X did not have the power to gain height fast enough after a fast dive.

I thought it might be the batteries (two years old and abused a lot), so I bought a couple of new batteries. But no change.

I thought it might be the motor (two years old and abused a lot), so I bought a new motor and replaced the old motor with it. While doing that I ripped a connector of the 3in1-board. Tried to solder that and managed to do it. But it broke off again after touching it firmly while installing the board into the frame again. So I bought a new board. The old was two years old.... But no change!

During the next test flight the 130x suddenly started to flip. Argh! On the ground again I could see the elevator servo (the one in front of the swash plate) acting slower if at all than the other two swash servos. I took it apart after splitting the frame and found the spindle so full of dirt that one could even feel it was harder to move than on a new servo. I replaced it with a new servo. Guess what! That was the problem!

So before you replace the batteries and the motor and even the 3in1 check your servos first.

After that insight I read here on HF that the 180CXF will be available soon.

You can start to laugh now.

HA-HA-HA-HA

But seriously, at least you share it with us, others will now not make the same mistake.

I also had a few problems and were searching in the wrong direction. Next time, I'll know where to look.

When servos start to go they get slower. I first notice it in a hard climb. Right at the beginning it will pitch toward the bad servo, then usually over correct away from it. It will feel like you dont have enough pitch, but the headspeed will be there.

This is when I replace them

It's strange, but that was the first time I had a weak servo on the 130X. All my previous incidents were stuttering or completely dead servos. The stuttering servos could be healed with contact spray.

I always thought that I had gone through every failure a 130X can offer. But I was wrong.

Now I'll check my servos for such weaknesses with your method on a regular basis and change them when necessary.
