Default E7 CRASH - Belt Snapped

My belt snapped on my during flight this morning. Heli only has about 10 flights on her. Very disappointing

Maybe a defect/manufacturing flaw...Other's please be cautious and check your belts. Brand new Rail 696 blades & 106 tail blades are ruined + the canopy. Pics are attached.

To bad, I have 52 flights on my E7 and don't have one problem. Check to see if the bottom tail spacer has the flat spot facing up.

Check your idler pulley on the tail case. I had the bolt and locknut too tight and it want spinning. I was lucky and figured it out with the help of some fellow freaks before I burned through it.

Thanks for the tip. I found out early on that I had to losen the bolt for the pulley. As you said, that pulley get too tight with the nut screwed down all the way...

also check your tail stops %, you may want to tone them down a bit. The belt is fine, if you don't do hard tail stops or lots of piros against torque and at high pitch.

Aslo make sure you don't have less than 3mm left on the rear boom clamp.

I hope this is not a true statement? I would think that the belt on the e7 could handle aggressive stops.

I thought I heard in a podcast that there will be an optional TT upgrade eventually? Not that I think it's needed, just want to know the options.

Agreed, manufacturer defects happens every day. Not trying to push blame but want to ensure that Synergy investigate to ensure this is not a common theme as this one caused me dearly!

Guys,

I will do some further investigation on this to make sure this is not a manufacturing defect.
Yes, there is a TT system coming for those that prefer. I will hopefully have a conversion kit ready for Christmas.

Thanks,

Matt

Add me to the list of belt snappers. Fortunately, I was able to auto it down safely. I'm sure these are isolated incidents but I am glad the TT will be an option. Hope it doesn't add alot of gear noise cause I love the stealthy sound of the Helical gears and the belt drive.

Matt, can you share whether the counter gear for the torque tube will be a delrin helical cut gear?

Don-Dadda,

Your belt snapping was likely related to the abuse it went through at the VA Heli invasion. The boom supports not being glued was causing your belt to tension and untension very rapidly. That coupled with the slippage you were experiencing took a serious toll on the life of your belt. If you let the belt skip teeth it will eventually break. Now that your helicopter is setup properly you will likely have success.

TT System -
I have flown the new system multiple times now and it is very quiet. I did not like the idea of helical cut on the counter gears due to vertical movement as well as a much higher cost on a gear that is expendable in a crash. Im trying to maintain a high quality helicopter that is still reasonable to repair. I did chose mod 1.25 gears on both bevel gears and counter gears for durability. I have tried to break them over the last couple days with ridiculous reversal torture and they showed no signs of stress.
Two Chinese Team Synergy pilots competed in China 3DX over the weekend. One pilot placing 3rd in the sportsmans class using a belt driven E6. The other pilot placing 3rd in the expert class was flying an E7 with the new shaft driven tail. Many watching the competition could not tell the sound difference between the belt E6 and the shaft driven E7.

Matt, good to know about the TT option. I guess is it wise at this point to not fly my E7 until the TT option is available? Not knowing why my belt snapped (and it's not from abuse <g>) really scares me. I cannot afford to keep replacing blades and canopies. Your advice is appreciate it.

Hi Matt,
How much weight does the TT conversion add?

Matt,

I think your mistaking me for Zack. This is Patrick, skyfoxsxer on runryder and on your forum. I did have belt slipping problems but it was not due to boom supports. It was likely due to combination of governor gain being to high and possible tail blade stall from using to much throw. My belt did likely get fatigued from slipping before I figured out the cause and that is probably what caused it to snap. Looking forward to trying out the TT. Will the gears be machined or molded?

Default Update

I got an email from Matt (while he is still in China) and he will be replacing my belt. In addition, the Synergy team has been most gracious and have offered up assistance and parts in order for me to rebuild my E7. I can't think of a better way to help a fellow pilot in their time of need. They really have gone the extra mile in making sure I have support. Kudos to Matt and his Synergy Team!!!

Thank you guys!!!

Yea that was me with the Ungluded boom supports and that is probably why it broke so early! Did not think about that. The new belt is going good though!

Thanks again!
