It's not fancy - modified an old swash head upper arm, threaded a ball link bolt through far enough to depress the button, to use, just rubber band around gyro. Have pics, will post if anyone thinks this is worthy the effort. At 62, I have successfully maintained my status as the laziest guy in the room and this fixture is no exception. It it ain't easy to begin with, I'll do everything I can to make it so. |

Reset Button Fixture - Case Mod
Here we go - requires disassembly of the case (very carefully), then SLIGHT enlargement of the case where the halves meet at the "Reset" hole. The rest should be self-explanatory, but ask any questions as you need.

Dynam 3GS flybarless gyro is infact a ZYX-S!!! for $24.95 NEW?!?!?
FYI, my switch popped right off the board of one of my units. I updated the software by shorting the two terminals on the board with a small xacto knife while powering up (while removed from the case). Difficult task to do solo, but can be done! Gyro still works fine other than missing the button.

HAHA I can imagine how difficult and frustrating that would be.
I got so pi$$ed that I gave up on it. It's been awhile since I touched it. I'll give it a go again since I guess I'm not alone. :p |

With much practice, I've actually gotten better at the weird contortionist move myself. I use my mouth to push a small screwdriver into the button while plugging in the battery. Of course this requires the gyro to be secured to a solid platform, such as being stuck to the gyro platform on a 450+ heli

The comical body posturing/gyrations must have worked.
I completed my setup today; have not flown it yet, wanted to be sure everything was right. I was fortunate enough to really spend a lot of time on the mechanical setup/alignment, since this is also a conversion head to FBL. I guess the "gut check" is to spool up - without touching cyclic - and see if I really do have it right. All of the testing worked on the bench, including the Piro Optimization test, and the gyro is correcting the tail rotor in the correct direction, L is L, and push is forward...and up throttle is higher pos. pitch. Anyone with any suggestions of other ground or bench tests to check before the spool up testing?? |

Thanks - that one is pictured in the software with a diagram to test, although with Beginner setting, the movement is not very exaggerated, but it's there.

Killed my Conversion
I posted in the 450 forum. Yesterday was test day, and although extremely careful, and reviewing all the ZYX settings at least twice, and absolutely OCD about the mechanical setup BEFORE installing the ZYX....I killed my heli on first spool up with ZYX.
Details are ugly, but short story is very high pitch and back cyclic, damn near took my head off (MY head), then hit ITs head on the eave of the house. Remarkable that it only bent the main links to the grips and took out main gear and blades. Didn't even bend the feathering shaft or main shaft. Amazing. At any rate - clearly either I was PUSHING forward on liftoff causing the over compensation, or I was pulling back for some inexplicable reason, and the elevator cyclic gain is set too high. Problem now is that I have below zero, negative, confidence in my ability to properly setup one of these to try again, and I am clueless on how to determine what I did wrong, or even if there was a programming error made by me during setup. EVERYTHING worked, moved the right direction, and spool up without blades, even the tail worked right, and I didn't see any weird cyclic stuff. If this needs to be a different thread, I'll be happy to start it....I just don't know where to go from here except to stay FB. |

Very sorry. Unfortunately these things happen and it's sometimes difficult to spot the error.
I usually advise in situations like this to search out local help, it can be a God send with having someone experienced at hand. I was probably set back 6 months in my introduction to heli's (fb) because I DIDN'T do this. Keep at it though, I think you'll find the reward worth it.

Complicating things further is that I am very involved in precision aerobatics pattern from April-October, so my heli season is probably abbreviated way too much to be of any value because of the disuse. I sense a decision point coming somewhere soon - and actually, watching F3C vids has made me start leaning toward helis because of the flying site and aircraft capabilities of rotary wing. Any insights on how to do post-crash assessment for causes? |

Sorry to hear that, bob. Yes, please start a new thread and detail as much as possible your mechanical, gyro and Tx setup. post your ZYX settings file as well. I'm sure we'll all pitch in ideas and opinions...
