Default Confused about ESC

I'm finishing a build on a recently purchased 550x kit that did not include an ESC. Would the CC 100 work for sport flying or should I go with the 130?

Any input would be appreciated.

I have the 130 on mine, nice to have the extra headroom if you fly hard. I hit 170 pretty much every flight.

Thanks Crash,

This is my first build. I started a month ago with a 5003d that was BNF. 3d is not in my abilities yet. just trying to get everything put together. The whole ESC, BEC thing is getting a bit confusing. I don't mind spending the extra $100.00 if necessary, but would rather save the $ if possible.

It is generally considered that once you get to this size heli that you don't use the inbuild BEC; that is why a few versions of the kit came with the CC10A BEC.

Many people believe that heavy 3D flying is where the high current draw occurs but sport flying can be just as bad or worse without realizing it. The logging facility of the CC120HV speedie (and possibly other models) is very useful for knowing where you stand with the power system.

This came up recently.

That makes sense, thanks. It's easier to justify the extra expense when the end result could be a total failure. I was sent a Talon 90 with the kit and that seemed a bit too small for the application.

A lot of people run the Castle Edge 120hv or a HW 100 v3 ..... I'm interested in testing out the new HV 120 v4 too ... For the love of God DONT do a Talon...

Hobbywing 100v3 here. Not that I am any great pilot, only a few hover flights so far.

Buzz.
