I had to replace the main shaft and feathering shaft on my Protos .

I had a botched auto during my last flight: tipover on long grass. Everything looked OK, but when I went to fly the other day I noticed the blades were slightly out of track. I took the head apart and couldn't really tell if the shafts were bent, so I replaced them anyway. Solid main shaft this time - first time ever, I've been using the hollow ones until now, but they were out of stock last time I made an order, so I got the solid.

Test hover in my driveway today: perfect tracking. I guess one of the shafts was ever-so-slightly bent. I've looked and rolled those shafts on all the glass in the house and I still can't see any deviation.

Flying in the back yard again. Since I'm unlikely to get out to the airfield any time soon, I'll have to make do. Luckily I have a couple acres a good 50-60 feet below where I'm flying from.

Edit: Flew everything I got in the back yard just doing flips and hovering inverted.

Lots of fun. I think I'm going to start flying a little each day weather permitting.

Hopefully I can get comfortable in all orientations and then the gloves come off!!!

Few 3 batteries today. Was slightly breezy, but no problem for the Protos. One problem though. The head has loosened up, so there is a little play where the head sits on the main shaft.. Strange. I just tightened it up and loctited the other day. Guess I'll tighten it up again.

I must have overtorqued the jesus bolt as the thread inside the head had stripped out. Luckily I had a spare head.

Links were kinda "clicky" too. Either I wore them out or I oversized them. Replaced them and it is quiet now when I wiggle on the blades.

Went through and leveled the swash & set zero pitch. As soon as my batteries are charged I'm going on a test flight.

Hopefully I can have finished by weekend and weather holds up. Will be nice to fly my reborn stretched, lowered head Protos on my birthday!

It's raining... my Protos is on the rack casting hateful, jealous glances at the Logo 600. It will probably be cheered up when I unload the 550E up there with them.

Soon, soon, there will be sunshine enough for all the helis to go fly for me.

Here is mine with the hood open:

I can't get rid of the tail servo glitch.
I even put a wire connected to the tail shaft, which is connected to the tail guide pulley, which is connected to the tail. Almost zero ohms between tail and motor mount.
The servo glitch is always there...
I hate this wire mess to give current continuity.

I will also change the R608FS receiver for the R6008HS.

Flew 3 Batteries and did my first flip
Then almost ended the day badly, on the last pack did a quick punchout and the tail just spun around ...luckily I was able to save it and bring it down

so after about 10 packs, my tail is no longer holding

officially BROKE it in

Well things turned for the worse today after I was feeling good about fixing my non-holding tail issue

I cut off the pushrod guide and gave it another attempt today to see if that was causing binding

Tested tail on ground before spool up..Check

Spool up...about 4 feet up ...no tail control....slam it down...go to pick it up and I feel the main hub came loose..not sure if this was due to crash but probably

Damage...

  • The left side carbon frame has a crack (not broken through so will probably continue to fly it)
  • The bottom plastic frame which supports landing gear is broken
  • Trying to get the main shaft out and its not coming out so that is bent
  • Canopy has damage but not broken, just spider cracks on the bottom

I think the feathering shaft is OK but may check it out anyways

I am more pissed as to not knowing what caused this than anything

Finally, I got to fly. Was -2c thois morning with a bit of a wind, Damn. I just got a new Voltz 3300 35c Needed to try it. So while I was waiting for it to charge, then 1.5 hrs to ballance!!! One cell was way low. I flew 4 of my 2200 packs, and 3 in the Blade. Fly a batt, go sit in truck and warm up, fly another....
Just got another 3 packs in at the house here too. Likin the 3300 for sure. Way better at holding HS than my Great Hobbies packs. (manufacture unknown)

Little pic of my babys
