Sorry I can't answer your question but it makes me wonder why you would want to put a 160 with a fan in a 690. Are you running a 6S setup? It's unlikely a 12S would draw anywhere close to that much amperage even under hard 3D.

Guy at my club is running an 80 on his. It's barely getting warm.

What are the logs showing in terms of amps and temperature?

I routinely draw 6500W+ on my 690. Depends how you fly, headspeed, etc.

6500W / 44.4V ~= 146A (which is about what my peak amps typically show.)

I don't have a Castle 160 to check it, but I think you could make one fit. YGE 160 HV w/ heatsink is what I'm currently running.

I am running a stock motor in my 690 with a yge160hv esc. I originally had the yge heatsink on it, but replaced that with just an .032 thick plate of aluminum that was much lighter and barely gets warm. I routinely hit peaks of 5500W/130A during my flights.(2020 rpm)

Had a Scorpion commander 120 in mine and kept getting thermal and over-amperage shut downs. One day it caught on fire. Replaced with a heatsinked YGE 160 and the problem is gone. Logged 60+ flights since then with 0 incidents.

Oh, and I placed a small fan on top of the heatsink and it fits just fine under the stock canopy

It does fit, but it is a really tight one. My stock canopy with no modifications just touches the upper aft edge . I have thought about cutting clearance margins around the factory cutout, but have put it off. I have been trying to decide whether to exchange it out for a non fan version, but thus far haven't seen any issues with the canopy touching.

thanks guys , I cut a cooling "scoup" in the bottom of the canopy , seems to help ,so im gonna stick with the 120 for now , also cut a hole in the bottom tray to get more air into bec that's mounted there ...

I am going with a 690sx.

I was originally thinking yge 160. But maybe something lighter

What castle do you like ? Or. Other brand ?

The talon 120 looks pretty heavy ???

After a hard flight with my L600 with 640mm mains, I'm seeing peaks of over 160A in my Jive Pro 120HV logs. The FET temperature isn't bad, mid 60's centigrade if I remember correctly. I reckon I could easily pop 200A with 690mm blades. I'm even wondering if a Jive Pro 120HV will be sufficient when I get my 690SX.

Maybe I should go with the yge 160 and put a bec in

I was trying to save some weight but maybe better off giving up 1-2 ounces extra

I tried to fit both Castle Edge 160 with and without fan

With Fan: I could not get this to fit under the canopy.

Without Fan: Fits nicely under canopy

On Ron's advice, I just swapped out my 160 with fan to a 120. I have not had a chance to fly it yet, but the max amps I pulled with the 160/5000mah packs and Edge 690/Switch 690 blades was 126. My highest temp logged with the fan was 94.

I'll post the difference in temps that I record when I get to fly it. One thing I noticed the last time I flew it was that it is noticeably lighter when I pick up my Trex 700 V3 in one hand and the 690 in the other. It ain't cause one arm is weaker than the other, either.
