Yep, true plug and play with the Jeti. You'll be up and running with speed measurements in the time it takes to double-side tape down the unit, plug it into the rx, and turn on the radio!

How does it read? Just absolute speed through space, vector speeds, etc??

They say this. The 3D speed is what we want.

Accurate 3D speed
Altimeter function
Distance function
Distance covered
Geo co-ordinates

I like their products and this product looks feature rich and I'm sure it works well, however, I don't think it will be as accurate.

I never bothered buying a GPS module until I saw this Powerbox unit calculated using the Doppler shift. That is a big deal if you want an accurate speed measurement.

Great thread! I own a Jeti GPS module and have read limited info about the powerbox system. Will order one this week and perhaps do a comparison with both installed (simotaniously) in my aircraft. Not sure if I can print out a flight log showing both systems at work and do a overlay to compare results. I have a ds16 and profi box which should allow live results in flight as well.

Also have a 2 and 4 port expander. This may allow both gps devices to record data on one flight log at Tx.

Awesome! You're going to love it! Remember to download the PowerBox systems software and make sure your firmware is up to date.

Also, you'll need to configure it for Jeti and speed or coordinate location optimization. You can use the Jeti RX USB updater to do this if you didn't get the PowerBox USB updater.

Also, the two-piece plastic case is precariously bonded together and can break open exposing the electronics if it is subject to a drop or tail-wag vibrations, so either pop it apart and CA it back together permanently or run a piece of tape around it once or twice.

Step away from a thread, and look what happens...

Yes you are going to love the GPS II.

I don't know if this has been linked before. But for USA buyers, here is where I bought mine.

Received mine today as well. A little concerned about connections since little more than a picture defines correct polarity. Mark, your plug appears to be connected backwards. I did not find anymore detail on website and the manual states that warranty does not cover reverse polarity issues...I'm assuming there is no built in protection.

There is a small underline on the opposite side that I mistook for a negative symbol. I haven't powered mine up yet, so no damage done.

Mark,

Looks like we are both trying to configure for Jeti use. Are you clear on battery/usb connection? I am not.

Using my iPhone tonight and hope this edited photo is better. My ? now is which side of provided connector from powerbox does battery and Jeti usb connect to? Plug and play??? I've managed to progress through step 1. (program installed on my laptop). So much for installing a GPS in my aircraft tonight. Hope some of you with success will chime in and provide more detail than what is provided in manual.

John

Yes, the polarity could be better indicated. Signal wire is on the outside.

For what it's worth, I have done the updates by simply powering the units through the usb with no battery in parallel. It seems to work either way.

I wasn't planning to use a battery.
I may try working with it today and see if I can install it on my TDR.

What I didn't see were any suggestions for mounting it.

GPS systems vary in how sensitive they are. I would love to mount it to the top of the frame near the opening in the top of the canopy.

I read in the manual that mounting with antenna up or to the side provided best performance.

Did manage to update software and program for use with Jeti ex this morning. Had to update software to version .8 as my unit came with .7 installed.

I'm living proof you can't get the wiring wrong. It simply won't work until all connections are installed properly. With the JR plug have + in center, you can't cause damage (from the powerbox forums).

Mark, I mount mine on top of the tail servo on my TDR and on top of the tail boom just behind the frames on my Diabolo Speed. As long as you don't cover the antenna with CF, I've found that it's pretty insensitive to mounting orientation.

John, I'm glad you got it figured out!

Here's how I mounted it on my DS and TDR. Not necessarily a pretty mount on the DS, but it doesn't need to be when it's covered by the fuse. Both use a piece of 3M grey double-sided tape to keep it stuck down.

So you are getting good reception with the GPSII just sticking through the side of the frame on its side in your TDR?

I definitely prefer keeping it tucked inside if I can. I used to have an SK-GPS stuck out on the tail and it looked pretty ugly out there.

Yep. No reception issues with it mounted as shown on either model. Remember that this uses a helical antenna, so it's much more omni-directional than the typical GPS antennas we have in the hobby.

It fits well within the TDR canopy and has open view factor to "space" from multiple directions with only one thin piece of CF in view (edge-on above the antenna).

I'm not one for ugly installs either, so I hear you.

Default km to mph

I'm up and running but can't seem to find a way to switch from km to mph for my speed measurement. Using a DS16, but had no luck through jetibox. I came up on "powerbox system" but found no way to enter program to make changes. No luck while GPS ii is connected to my laptop either. What am I missing?

I'm running a r9 ex, mezon 165 esc, two temperature probes and the PB GPSii with 4 port Jeti expander. GPS info shows up via telemetry, just not in the values I'm looking for. Under sensors/logging setup, I can change altitude to m, km, ft, yd or miles. In same menu, speed is only available in km/h.
