Default Flybarless Blade 400 w/CX-3X1000 Cyclic Problem

Hi All,

I recently converted my B400 to flybarless using the usual Tarot head + CX-3X1000 combo. I'm also running an Ice Lite 50, Eflite 440H motor, as well as HS65MGs as cyclic servos.

I flew 6 batteries through the heli with the stock "3D Lite" settings, with the collective set up at +/- 10 degrees, and 6 on the cyclic. The heli flew perfectly. I had no problems using the non-digital cyclic servos.

I then went and changed it to +/- 12 degrees on the collective, and had a problem. After a flight, I noticed the pitch of the blades had changed. It seemed as though stock Eflite links are 0.2mm thicker than the ones that came with the Tarot head. As a result, the links pulled out of the Eflite ends just a little bit. I've since changed the links to Eflite ones....

Problem solved? Nope.

Now, when hovering in Idle Up, the heli exhibits momentary left-rolling twitches. Under normal mode, the heli is completely stable... I tried playing with some gains, but couldn't nail down the problem.

I appreciate the help!

Kim,

A lot of people have experienced similar rolls due to static - this unit seems to be prone to static and vibes. I had a similar issue that was 100% sorted by grounding the tail bearings to the boom and then the boom to the motor mount.

Good luck,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Static! That makes sense. I'm running a carbon fiber tail boom... That, coupled with the higher RPM could definitely be causing static. I'll try some grounding...

If you do a search of HF you'll come up with lots of info.

A FBL heli that hiccups at high RPMs but not lower sounds like a classic case of vibration sensitivity. I'd look into that first, personally.

momentary rolling twitches are usualy the result of vibration. Obviously the heli is vibing more in idle 1. What are you using for mounting tape. Did you balance your tail blades also?

Hi all,

It turned out to be a vibration problem. I re balanced the blades and re-did my tracking, as well as replacing the tail blades. It seems to be holding well now.

When I installed the controller, I used the included foam tape. It seems pretty thin and rigid. Can anyone recommend better gyro mounting tape?

Thanks!

The 3M 4011 outdoor tape (grey in color) works great!
