Just keep in mind that if you are going for the direction that everyone says is the best, it should turn up into the main rotor wash. In fact, it makes almost no difference. The full size 500 rotates the tail blades down away from the mains so if the entire premise of having the best possible performance happen with the direction the "experts" tell us, then the MD500 and all its variations should be falling out of the sky with no tail authority. Mine is working just great and no matter what the wind, I can keep it under control with just two blades. I think that we expect all of our models to perform like pod and boom helicopters which have very high tail rotor speeds and lots of tail authority.

Let's consider that the latest trend is to slow the tail rotors down with all these high performance helicopters. Why? They blow out as they are rotating too fast and loose the ability to hold the tail. I am slowly tweaking the Skookum from my original settings and so far with the change to the latest firmware, it is getting better and better with each adjustment. I have lowered the tail pyro rate to 300 degrees per second and might lower it a bit more. The Jet Ranger works perfectly and the AS350 is a lot more improved than ever. I have flown in winds up to 25km and find it is a challenge but not impossible. That is like a full size in a gale which is not going to happen at all but my 500 takes it with a bit of coaxing and patience.

I hope the mechanics work out well for you but remember that the best thing you can do is to tie all the bearing plates together to make a much more rigid chassis than the awful Align 600E. The 600EFL Pro is 100% better than the E/EFL by a long shot. Hope it makes a very solid unit.

so sorry for lack of updates, been a bit busy moving home lately!

Glad to report that the AH-6 has made it the 600 miles back home unharmed, but as you can see the garage has some sorting out to do lol.

Today I did however sneak off and machine the main shaft tail drive gear... Machining top side:

and bottom side:

and finished part (well just a hole to drill on the collar):

As for your Heli, just plain awesome and I customize myself so
I definitely know the hours and skill it takes to pull this off

The white satellite type thing? I designed that for this project - it's worth noting that the angles etc are set up to give a level platform on the tail boom of the md500 fuse, so using elsewhere may require a little modification.

if however you want one, I will make it available on shapeways for you - they are just having some technical issues at the moment.

Sorry for lack of updates - move to new country, new house and my mini quad project ( the immersionrc vortex ) have kind of put this to one side. It's not abandoned though, just on hiatus

New house is good but ironically I just don't really have anywhere to work on this stuff lol.

I designed myself a man cave/workshop, and am currently building it in the garden... should be a nice space when it's done - fully insulated and with an all important inspiration producing beer fridge. The likelihood is that I won't have that finished until the winter as I'm doing it all on my own. So this project realistically is probably totally shelved until that is done and I have somewhere to work on stuff again.

Workshop progress so far though is coming along reasonably well:

Nice! looks more like a man bunker than a man cave, could survive anything, maybe even she who must not be named

Holy crap, this has to be one of the most detailed in depth build that I have seen. Right down to a "man cave build

Yeah the man cave was an unforeseen complication lol.

Really looking forward to having somewhere to work on stuff again though! It's coming along well - even at my slow and steady pace it should be finished before christmas

weird panoramic
