500 and model differences
I'm currently researching mainly 3 different aircraft at the moment to purchase.
Yes this will be my first larger scale heli. Yes I will be putting in an insane amount of SIM time with RF6. It's basically between the 500 or 450. I'm really into tinkering. I also do RC trucks. Of which I've built from parts. So I'm okay with buying a base model as long as it works, and upgrading as I go/break parts. So my main question here is. Can I just go with the 500 E (http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...n-Fiber-Blades) and upgrade parts as I go? or should I just start at the top? |

Start with what you can afford. The pro is a better design but more expensive but then after, parts cost about the same since they share alot of similar parts. Can't go wrong either way regardless...or you can pickup a used one in the forsale section. SNJBIRD is selling one really cheap!

I'd get the 500e. I believe that's a belt tail. I would stay away from tt at the moment.

So through breaking upgrading and of course time. I can turn it into an efl? Or beyond? I.e. FBL, carbon chassis.
Are parts interchangeable? I just do t want to get a base model then not have it carry me through the upgrade process because it has a dramatically different design. I'm thinking this because this it how it was with the rc monster trucks I've built in the past. If you went to "base" the layout and parts were actually different. Meaning you would eventually hit a bit of a wall with upgrades. Where if you had at least started with a Premium type model you could actually upgrade it further. Is there an online resource for the parts list or exploded views? May be then I can better compare the parts and interchange-ability. Last edited by >Moo; 05-26-2012 at 02:40 PM.. |

The pro is a different machine compared to the E. there are a fair bit of parts that are different. I don't think it's a simple task to replace the E with a pro via upgrades.

I have gathered that. It would appear that it's best to just buy what you want upfront.
A lot of these birds do have a good aftermarket, but it just doesn't really work that way. It's cheaper just to buy it first. In most cases. I was even turned on to a vendor that will allow you to "custom" order and tell them what parts you want. The discount is pretty good of you use them to do this. Justeans you need more upfront. But it looks to be worth it. |
