Question 700 tail rotor gear box

Guys
Have any of you taken apart the gear box to change the bearings or replace a bevel gear for the torque tube drive?
If so, can you let me know if the spacer between the bearings fit tight" as in being squeezed in position between the bearings or is there loose fit, say a little wiggle room between the bearings?
Kindly let me know
Thanks
d

I'd say shim it until it's not able to move but anything tight/squeezed in is just going to load things up and cause excessive wear to bearings/gears.
IMHO of course!

I set mine right at no wiggle room but no loading of the bearings.

Well I did it over. also took a bit of material of the gear on the tail rotor shaft.
Not sure if that was a good idea but it seems smooth.
Only one way to find out and that is to go fly it.
Over the weekend Ill get a chance and will post the results
Thank for all the help

If your worried about the tail I take it off the boom to do the fitting.

With the bolts a bit loose you can spin the shaft and feel for side to side play.

If all good , tighten up the bolts and check again.

with the tail rotor off and out of the heli it can be adjusted and worked on easily.

When your setting mesh keep an eye for the engagement of the inner side of the gear. You want these teeth to be fully engaged or close to it without making the gear mesh tight.

I think it's best to get the best engagement possible on the inner side but with the loosest gear mesh. Odd combo to say the least.

First pic is of the 800 which I think is a bit loose on the inner side , but after my gears piling up i'm nervous. Any tighter and the outer side gets tight. I feel the overall tooth gets good engagement .

Second pic if my 700 , this has a better fit on the innerside.

Im not really worried about the tail. I did it the best I know how.....lol
It feels fine on the bench. Mr. Dhal had a post somewhere on the forum that has some tips like trimming a bit of the tail rotor gear and shimming etc etc. Also about cleaning up the damaged gear with and exacto. removing the burrs essentially.I've done what I could and will test. I did shave a little plastic of the tail rotor gear but when shimmed its still doesn't feel right.
So I've left it with out one.
Will give it a try on the weekend and post.

Paul,
Salvaged the gear...... parts arrive next week
See you over the weekend

Alright!
Everything went well today . The gears held out. The advice from Mr Dhal about salvaging the gear was on the button. Thanks Mr. Dhal. I think I could get a shim in there now as there seems to be more back lash as it has worn in some with the flights today. Will do so for tomorrows secession. Did manage to blow the solder joint out of the y connector which caused the heli to shut down. Thank god for the receiver pack. All went well.
Thanks guys that Logo 700 is a beast
regards
D
