I just got my E620 tuned in this morning. SK540, Futaba servos, an ICE2 120HV and the latest firmware on everything. Started with 50 but that was too high. 40 was also too high. 35 was smooth. I finally settled on a governor gain of 37 with the tail start and stop gains set to 27 and 32.

The issue isnt with CC escs. But does it work very well with that gain like it should,
Holding the rpm and all.

Have just updated my SK540 to 3.30. Tail shutter still there - maybe a 5% improvement.
All flight modes are exactly the same rpm as per sk540 settings. On normal mode 2100 rpm, tail shutter are not very noticeable, but IU1 - 2250, IU2 - 2400 there are still a major tail shutter. Maybe the next firware will have a fix.
Still on 112/11 (30.55 gear ratio) and ordered a 12 pinion to c if there`s a difference. Governor gain of 33 keeps head speed 100% steady - below 23 gain, tail shutter are gone, but gov useless. Have tried a friend`s cc esc - everything 100%, but the hobbywing does not want to play along. What a bummer

Going up a tooth didn't help form me! The yge 120 hv is spot on and the yep 80 hv seems to be perfect too! Hobbywings are now shelved!

Default Same symptoms here

I'm having the same issue as the OP, fast oscillation that is proportional to both governor gain and head speed. You can both hear the oscillation and see it as a very fast but small amplitude tail wag.

Setup includes: Trex 500, 500MX on 14T pinion (one up from stock), ICE 75 w/ v4.02, hobbywing sensor, SK-540

My series of events:
  1. install SK-540 without sensor and governor off, get it tuned and flying very nice - no tail wag
  2. Install hobbywing sensor and turn on SK-540 governor, v3.15
  3. Same tail wag symptoms as stated above, worse with higher governor gain and/or higher head speeds
  4. Give up with SK v3.15 governor and go back to Castle governor, wag gone, flying nice again
  5. SK v3.30 comes out, want to give governor a try again
  6. Wag is back, at gov gain of 35 there isn't much wag in normal (2300) but significant in IU1 and IU2 (2450/2650)
  7. Fiddle with governor gain, wag disappears at 25 but governor performing poorly there. The best I can get is 27 where it only wags in IU2, at this level of gov gain I would say the Castle gov is better. FYI - turning tail gain down from known good point pre SK governor helps some but does not cure
  8. About ready to give up and go back to Castle governor

Help Skookum! When I look at my Caste ESC logs i can see the rpm and throttle input data. Both are wavering (noisy) a lot with the SK gov on and even bogs around 75 rpm on a simple flip. I'm convinced the SK governor is the cause here simply because there was no wag symptoms both before and after the governor, and they appeared immediately upon turning the governor on.

So what do you think. Can I replace my HW 100A platinum pro with a Hobbyking Yep 100A or 150A and my tail shutter will be gone with sk governor? Because I dont know if and when the next firmware will solve this tail shutter issue.
I contacted skookum again and asked them if 3.30 will fix my problem - This was their awnser:
Hi Jaco,

They may be. I found and fixed several bugs in the governor, and more improvements will be out in a week. I wasn't able to replicate that problem, so I can't be sure it is fixed. We are flying a hobbywing esc now though

So it seems that we have faulty hobbywing esc`s, because skookum are flying hobbywings without any issues.

Well the yep isnt too exp so its worth a try. I have 2 hw 70a hv and 2 hw 120a hv on 2 6hvs and 1 7hv. They all have this issue for me but the yep/ygp esc seems to be solid. This hobby is always like this. Cross your fingers!

Nobody can help here? Is my only recourse to turn off the SK gov, go back to CC gov, and wait to try again with the next version of the firmware?

If you haven't tried it already, going up 1 tooth on your pinion may help. More info in post #40.

I'm actually already up 1 tooth on the pinion from stock and don't want to go up more - otherwise I'd give that a try.

Alternatively, to achieve the same effect for testing one could just lower the desired head speeds without changing pinion. I've already shown that I have less chatter at my lower normal speed and the most chatter at the highest head speed in IU2. (2300/2450/2650 in a 500 size bird)

I suppose one could rationalize a bigger pinion as some sort of mechanical dampening - less acceleration available so harder for the motor to bounce around speeds; however at a cost of harder demand placed on the ESC and less efficiency.

Good day all

Just upgraded my SK540 to 3.31 and did a small test flight above my house - just some tic-toc`s, pitch pumps, flips/rolls and it seems like my tail shutter are gone. I left my gov gain at 32 and the head speed seems stable with all of the above moves, without a tail shutter - Hopefully the governor will stay like this when I go to our local flying field tomorrow. My IU2 are currently at 2350 and I will increase it to 2450-2500 when my 12 pinion arrive.

Don`t want to say thanks Skookum before I do some more flights.

Those who tested the 3.31 v please let us know if the issue is gone!

Okay did 6 flights yesterday and it seems like my governor tail shutter are 95% less with 3.31. Sometimes when I get out of hard moves into a hover I can still see and hear the tail shutter, but it`s 95% less. Previously I had to go down to 23 on gov gain which gave me no gov response, but also no tail shutter. Now at 32% gain on gov and gov works great except the the tiny tail shutter now and then.

Okay, but it seems that Skookum are on the right track of fixing this issue. I still don`t like my tail shutter at the moment, but hopefully it will get fixed completely soon.

Any news on this issue?

Have a T-rex 550 with HW100 Platinum and the HW sensor and the Skookum 720. I'm currently at 18 gain on the governor and that is too low for it to keep the rpm. Anything above and I get pretty bad oscillations. Had the original Align ESC earlier and that was fine with 28 gain.
