Default Hyperion 720i Duo3 issues

My Hyperion was acting up last year and I got it replaced. Well its now doing the same thing. I get an output volt to high error!! If I drop my power supply to 12V it seams to correct the issue. This only happens to one side the other works fine?? Does anyone know of a fix?? I already did a firmware update and that did not work!! I contacted ALL E RC last week and I'm still waiting for a reply!!

Get an FMA or iCharger. I've heard nothing but bad news with Hyperion.

Yes I will. Those are my charger of choice now...however after I buy a new one....I will still need/ want another. I'm tired of charging and storing all day/night. And although I live like I'm rich...I really can't afford 2 pl8 duo's

What do you need to charge that would require a pair of dual PL8s?

Packs of the same cell count, just different capacities, can be parallel charged together, as long as they start at similar voltages.

How many different cell counts do you need to deal with?

Dual channels are really handy. Have you seen this one? A whole lot cheaper than buying two PL8s.

The 6S could all be grouped together, likewise the 3S.

One option would be a small quad-port charger, for the little stuff. Hitec, for instance, makes a 4-port, 80W/channel charger. I forget the price, maybe around $125? Something like that could help address the variety of smaller packs. There is also a 4-port, 125W/channel version, I think. They won't be on the same level as a PowerLab or anything, but they'd offer a bunch of flexibility, for fairly cheap.

No matter how you cut it, you'll need multiple chargers to do it all at once. But perhaps one could be big & expensive, and the other could be smaller and cheaper. Heck, perhaps you could make it work with a single PL8 and a 125W/port quad charger?

(shrug) Just trying to help. There are options, if you can't manage a pair of Dual PL8's.

Lol I know. And if I could afford the most expensive and best it wouldn't be an issue. However I did buy a Hyperion and look where that got me. I Dont mind making the wife miss a few dinners out to get something that will last. Besides I won't be able to afford another when she leaves!! Lol

Just one question....it seams that the 4010 I charger or 308 and the pl8duo are the top running chargers....if I were to get a pl8 and one of the I chargers. Is it gonna be a pain to learn the difference in settings or are they straight forward?? The Hyperion is very easy and straight forward!!

Both are quite easy. Any charger has a fairly small learning curve compared to most things in this hobby. I have the 4010 Duo as my main charger (field) and a 306b at home for AC charging. And had a PL6. Liked them all. Of course the 4010 with it's screen is the easiest of all.. its like using a PC compared to a calculator.

Used server supplies. Cheap, and high quality. The HP DPS-600PB I use were about $15 each shipped on eBay, 12V, 47A, 1150W. Run two in series for 24V. If you were getting a 4010Duo or Dual PL8, you could run up to 4 of them, for 48V, 47A, 2300W.

Everything you ever needed to know to convert them:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1581061

The info you really need is in about the first 10 posts.

You can also buy them pre-modified for our use.

Or there are commercial supplies as well, of course, but a 1000W supply will likely be over $200, I believe, maybe more like $300?

If you get an Powerlab I'll walk you through it, over the phone, email, pm or in a thread here. Which ever you prefer.

HeliDirect carries the Dual PL8, though I think they were out of stock the other day. They often have 10% off sales.

As far as a deal on a Dual PL8 & 4010Duo, maybe email Dave at ProgressiveRC? Their support is also outstanding, great store.

I already own one of those 1000w 40a protek inverter. I'm not thinking that's gonna be enough to fully use those chargers. However possaely more then I will need. I normally charge at a 1c rate. If I charge 4 of my 5000mah packs at once would I have to boost the amps to 20a to still have a 30min charge time? And if two packs were 5000 and two 5300 what cut out mah do I set?.not sure if there is a 20600 option?? Thx for the heads up with calling Dave. I will see what he can do.
