Default Quick help on a 6s stretch setup

Heya,

Just got my 6s motor, stretchkit and solid lynx 13-15t pinions...

First of all, what pinion should i use? im on soft 3d in skill lvl. Have a few 6s nanotechs 1300 mah coming soon. Im thinking of 14 or 15t as i like longer flighttimes and a little lower head spead, would 14t be good?

And the other thing im wondering about the solid lynx pinion, is it a straight switch or do i have to mod anything to get the pinion so stick on motor shaft? Lynx pinion comes with two locking screws...?

at last but not least, since my YGE 60 is at 3s setup, what do i need to change for optimal values for 1300kv 6s motor?
(forgotten most of the setup procedure since i first build and setup esc with brain)

thanks!

Depends what your target head speed is. You said that you are a LHS guy, I have a 15t and get 2300-3000rpm, check with a HS calculator for that. For the pinion you have nothing to mod, just locktight the screws and I put some locktight on the shaft too, be careful not to let it drip into any bearings and it will make the pinion very hard to remove later.

I'm not familiar with the YGE but I had to change my motor pole count to 10 on a CC esc.

I suggest you experimate with the HS, see what suits you best.

Have fun!

Pinion depends on what kind of headspeed you want to run.
I'd probably run a 15t myself on a 1300kv motor as I like 3k rpm on 360's.
14t would be good for about 2800rpm, which is already pretty good performance on 360's.

Only difference from the 3s motor (besides the kv) is that the 6s motor is 10 pole instead of 6 for the 3s. It doesn't change anything for the YGE though, but you'll have to change the numbers in the Brain if you're using it's governor.
I'm not sure how gov store works but i'm fairly sure you'd have to redo the setup if that's what you use.

Edit: I am indeed speaking of governed headspeeds.

You did not mention if you are running a governor or not. But ungoverned the 14t can still reach 3400 @ 100% flat. And around 2900 max governed rpm with a 14t.

With a 15t you can govern up to about 3100 which is likely the most you would ever need. Personally I like mine at 3000 and I run the 15t.

I've never used the yge so I can't help you there either.

The Castle controllers are quite conservative with their governing limits. The YGE will govern over a broad range due to active freewheel. You will need to redo your governor store with a new motor. Remember to use 4.0v/cell on your packs when you set this and use decent quality packs of course.

I run a 14T on my stretched 6S setup and a 1360kv motor and run:

2800rpm or so (for takeoff/landing and any slow headspeed stuff if im in the mood). This equates to 65% in my Tx.

3050rpm (where I spend most of my time for a decent balance between flight time and performance). Equates to 75ish% in my Tx.

3250rpm when I feel like smacking it around real good. 85% in the Tx.

Some guys run over 3300rpm for extreme performance, but you're looking at diminishing returns at that point. 15T pinion, more amp draw, low flight times, tasking the batteries and ESC, higher motor temps, more wear on bearings, etc.

My machine is quite heavy with 1300mah packs as well since I have many metal upgrades due to the power requirements and at 3250rpm it is still an absolute riot and very floaty with the 353mm blades. So I will vote 14T here.

thanks for the help!

im using governor and was thinking about FL1: 2400? FL2: 2700 FL3:3000
which should be possible with 15T pinion?

I really have no idea what flighttimes i will get here but if i get 4 mins im ok with it.

Earlier with 325 blades i was running 2700/2900/3400 if i remember right with a 16T on 3s.

So i think 15T pinion will work for me here?

Yeah 15t pinion should give you that, and around 4min flight at 3000rpm, and more if you run it lower.

I run 2800/3000/3300 on 15t

3000 on 360s, 3300 on 350s. I was getting 4 mins on 1250mah flying smooth. But beating it up it closer to 3:30-3:45
