Default Just got my Hurricane 500

How can I tell how old my kit is? I bought it new in the box, but second hand from a guy who won it at a raffle his RC club put on.

Also what is the deal with the ESC and BEC? How should I wire this stuff, I have the 2 3 cell 2200 packs, but what do I wire the BEC to? The kit only came with a motor and a ESC that seems to have a external BEC attached to it under shrink wrap....

Your kit is a bit older if it has the separate BEC. If you will want to use that BEC, you will need a separate 2S pack to run it.

Or you can pick up a Dimension Engineering SportBEC or Castle Creations CC-BEC and run it off the main pack.

Watch the Finless videos, there are some issues with the links and screws that you will want to deal with.

I just looked at the ESC again and and kit contents and there is no separate BEC, only a ESC with a lead out of it for the reciever, a pair of leads to the battery and a trio of leads to the motor.

I assume you just solder onto the battery harness I need to make to have 2 three cell batterys supply the 6 cell voltage into the ESC and that is it?????????

What else do I need to confirm before putting this together and flying it? I am not into hard 3d.... just a loop or roll and normal mode flying.

I have the servos that came with a Spektrum DX-7 radio with the factory servo arms, will this be okay or do I need different arms or anything?

Thanks Ron

If all you have is an EC you will have to make the decision to get a BEC that will plug directly into the battery or a regulator that will use a separate reciver battery to power the rcvr and servos.

There are benifits to both...BEC no separate battery, just play and play (fly) no extra weight.

Reg & battery...little extra weight but steady power to rcvr, bec has to be able to handle the 22v and reduce to rcvr volatage... I like the separate battery becuse I can power the servos and make adjustments without powering up the motor.

But you do add another possible failure point.

I run BEC's on all my planks, and on an ECO8 but my Hurri came with the regulator and power lights, so far I have no complaints with it.

You also have to make a "series" harness for the main batteries.....using 3 deans conn....two male and 1 female.. wired + batt - to + batt - to + batt - There is a thread or picture somewhere in the forum.

So then this esc does not have a built in bec that will handle the 6 cell incoming voltage?

Well I feel ripped.... I thought this kit came with a BEC and even a special battery for running it. I have a BEC from Lightflightrc.com I wonder if it would work and if so, what is the best way to wire it in?

I asked Dave at Lightflight about using this BEC with 6 cells and he said it SHOULD work.... But was designed for up to 5 cells.

Do you mean the 550 or the BEC - 550 manual here - http://www.gaui.com.tw/en/H550_Instruction_Manual.pdf you can get a BEC that will take up to 8S from Dimension for about $30
