Default Material

The material is the same material used in the GAUI X5.

The Pitch slider was overtightened at the factory causing the brass to crack.

Using brass may have something to do with friction with the tail shaft, fine thread machinability and other things. It's not the first time brass has been used for that part. Finding the root cause of the failures is a good thing.

My question is if this problem can possibly apply to my X4 that I purchased last month. If so, is there a way I can check for overtightening? Will this overtightening apply to this part number 213654 CNC Tail Pitch Slider?

Thanks JC for the quick help and response.

When I get the new unassembled pitch slider I will put a thin washer in between the two pieces (bearing bock and pitch fork) so the pitch fork is not able to bottom out on the threads causing undo stress. I can totally see how a part like this could be “cut into” if overnighted or if the threads are not cut far enough in causing the pitch fork to "bite in further."

Agree bradg, brass has been used for this part for years and years ….

I think a small space (washer) to keep the pitch fork from bottoming out might be the work around to this issue… or if Gaui can cut a few extra threads in the newer pieces, that should work too.

Thoughts?

Thanks JC.

OK, What should we do?

1) Fly it and hope for the best.
2) Replace it with another brand part (e.g. Align)
3) Buy a replacement pitch slider and install.
4) Something else?

If over tightening is the culprit. I think replacing the stock pitch brass slider sleeve would be in order.

How would you know the replacement you buy has not been overtorqued? I think it comes as an assembled unit.

Is this the correct item? G-313042 ( Tail Slider )
If so, it is already on back order at Empire. I guess everyone on here ordered them today?
I guess that I am going with the Align tail slider.

The replacements are not assembled.

You will have to assemble them.

It's a good point....how do we actually know if our tail slider is good or not ?? If someone has been assembling them incorrectly at the factory, how do you know how many have been affected? Only had 5 flights on my NX4, but how can I be confident that this part will not fail?

Been looking at the slider on my Ely-Q Vision comp tonight, and it looks very similar in design. I have a spare tail somewhere, so will dig that out and report back.

As said previously, this is not a cheap kit so would be expecting good customer support if issues arise. Still not impressed by the video telling me the blades supplied with the kit are not really fit for purpose

Cheers,
Simon

Is it actually an assembling problem, manufacturing defect or a design flaw? If it is an assembling problem, then getting an unassembled replacement part will fix the problem. But if it is the other two, then it will not help.

Rudyy,

Brass Sleeves have been used for a very long time as slider. There is no design flaw. Simply overtightened at the factory. The replacements we are sending are unassembled. This is been taken care of at the factory. So the newly assembled kits, and replacement parts in the package should not have any issues.

Mine has not yet failed. So, do I have to pay in order to get the unassembled replacement part?

I got my new kit today. I already took the slider apart just to make sure. The brass sleeve looks perfect with nicely cut threads. I can't see any signs of stress. The unit spins nicely with no play. I used a soldering iron to heat it up. They used some white silicon looking loctite.

I found a small washer and put it on and put it back together. The spacer makes it impossible for the fork to thread to far on the brass sleeve but still gives me the ability to fully tighten it down.

Putting it on. Wish me luck.

I won't be able to try it out as my JR 12x decided to go into APCM freq and I have to send it in to Horizon

GAUI Blades : As for blades I thought they flew fine and for the stick banging 3D I could through at them. I have another set and will try them back to back with the Edge I am using and report back in some time.

Personally I don't think there is a way to know. I would heat it using a soldering iron to loosen the loctite, and unscrew it. Check the threads and I would check to see if it looks like the pitch fork might have tried to cut more threads. Also if the bearings are notchy it is to tight as there is not a bushing in between the bearings. Loosen it.

I think having a thin washer to take up some space is the answer. Having the last thread not being used will mean you can't tighten it so much that it might cut into the last thread.

I think the threads might be cut just to size with little wiggle room.

Again this is just my thought on this issue.

Decided to see if my vision comp slider would fit, turns out they are identical.

The Ely-q part has a plastic bearing carrier, but dimensionally exactly the same so used the Gaui one. Even the plastic arms are the same in dimensions. The Gaui brass insert was jammed in so tight on mine I can only assume it was an accident waiting to happen. Quite pleased that I've found a replacement in th spares box so I don't have to dip into my pocket and spend money on a brand new kit.

I've filed a little off the brass bush to give me a bit more throw, but not sure if it's necessary. Pretty confident that the new part should be okay, been flying my Vision comp for over two years with no tail problems.

Cheers,
Simon
