Need Help
So in the interest of progress, I want to add an auto pilot to one of my Camera Ships, but having a bit of trouble deciding either on the Naza. WKM, Heli Command, Ace One 3200.00 version...
What are peoples thoughts on trusting the Naza on a 800 class 18 pound heli.. Jason? Tahoe Ed? nightflyr? Currently its flying perfect on the BeastX, looking to add the Autopilot to help aid my eye balls when it gets out there and becomes a Dot.. From what I know in this hobby, not all the time does price reflect quality products, just looking for the right choice in taking some of the flight load off me and allowing my attention to be focused less on maintaining level. I've read just about everything there is on these controllers, the Ace One has some nice features but I think unless I want to use the Zenmuse on my Heli "which I dont plan to" then it is a bit much for my needs.. Any help would be appreciated. My back ground, I bought my first heli in 1989...so this isn't my first rodeo, but it is my first RC Heli Auto Pilot. |

If it were me, I think the NAZA is still pretty new and has only had 1 quick software revision. I had a crash with my 700 that is being investigated by DJI so would like to see if they can find anything wrong with the unit or firmware. So maybe the proven WKM would be a safer bet for now.

wow!
So let me ask you then, did you have your 700 flying previously without the Naza? Was the heli an electric? Was your Heli FBL or Traditional FLy Bar? |

You can read about my testing of the unit and various setups here.
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=479138 I'm not certain the NAZA was the cause but at this point it is the most likely option. //Dennis.

Hey, Darcy, that you? (recognized your bug and bird). Naza flew my Trex600 nicely, did one test flight with the Helicam gimbal and gains were way too high for the weight/CG change. Before I could adjust, I got a good offer to sell as a package, so I did. I have a Naza-h mounted on a Bergen observer but not flown yet, waiting on a couple of parts from Chris and hope to try it next week. I know Chris has put DJI gear (WKH and Ace one) on his helis so the vibes can't be too much for the gear.

From what flights I did get in before old man winter showed up it was functional, but did show the drifting tendency in ATTI mode which hopefully will be addressed in a future update We've been in a deep freeze so any more test flights are on hold for the present time. I also run HC RIGID and HC3-SX on 2 others 800 birds. I have no experience with the WKM or ACE ONE

I have a Trex 800 (F3C stretched), align servos, ice120hv, Xera 300kv motor and naza-h+gps.
The heli flies great, so far no problems.

Finally got my Bergen Observer in the air again (well, at least a low hover). Tracked the blades and vibes are all gone so I flicked on the Naza-h for a few seconds and it didn't death flip. Couldn't take it further as darkness was setting in but it looks quite promising. More tomorrow.

Hey, DJI lists firmware 1.04 but no files yet. No info on the DJIwiki. Anybody have any idea what is in it?

As far as .exe files, the only one is the loader. It appears they load the firmware direct from their servers to the IMU... There is documentation available at the download site. http://www.dji-innovations.com/produ...a-h/downloads/

Take-off and landing
Can someone pls. let me know if I can switch Atti mode to 'on' (from manual mode) during spoolling up at the moment just before the skid lifts off the ground instead of during hovering as recommended in the manual. And for landing, can i switch to manual mode after landing instead of when the heli is still in the air. This would make life a bit easier for me, I would prefer to have the Atti mode switched on-off while the heli is still on the ground but of course with the motor running as described above. My Naza H is without the GPS module. Thank you.

The danger point in switching to Atti mode is when the helicopter weight on the skids prevent the helicopter from responding to the naza control commands. The naza will increase the command throw trying to move the heli until disaster strikes. If you are light on the skids you MIGHT be OK. As a fairly new helicopter pilot, I would recommend you get comfortable with lifting off without naza engaged. Naza can hide a bad mechanical setup that will result in less-than-optimal performance. EG. after replacing bearings in the Bergen, a test hover resulted in strong right and back drifting. I rechecked swash and it was not level due to slop being removed after refurb. If I had naza on at liftoff, I might not have seen the drift.

Flim63, thank you for your message. Yes, as a beginner pilot, I am reluctant to fly on manual mode but in this case would have to try to do it until DJI comes up with the firmware upgrade to cover semi-auto take-off. Kudo to Naza H for its intelligence in trying to hide some mechanical shortcomings in our heli (if any) to make it appear to fly normally i.e. self-levelling.

Does the Naza-H replace the existing gyro on a flybarred heli? If so, couldn't I still use a DX6i?

DJI Naza-H GPS
Yes it replaces the gyro, no you still need 7 channels
In no particular order 1 - aileron 2 - elevator 3 - throttle 4 - rudder 5 - pitch 6 - tail gain 7 - mode switch (man/Atti/GPS Atti)
