The shavings from drilling holes is aluminum and thus wont try to stick to the magnets! Yes you could use JB weld but pinning will for sure keep it from coming apart!

I have the 420LF - blue can and gold caps. I screwed in the bolts on both sides and heated the can. I am pulling with all my might but can't get them off. I bought it earlier this week. Do you think Align might have improved it? The motor is new and unused. Do you suggest that I should just drill and use screws to secure it without fresh lock-tite, or that I fly it a few times and hope it comes apart easier later (hopefully not while airborne!)... |

You dont have to take it apart to pin it so I would just pin it and be done with it.

There is a guy on RR who had the screw on cap unscrew and it looks like it was thread locked from the factory. Looks like probably you should pin them also. He did after it failed.

Does anyone know if the shaft can be replaced? I took mine apart to investigate some side-to-side palcy and noticed that the shaft was smaller in diameter in the area where the bearing sits. I think it has worn as I heard of other people's experiences of the shaft spinning in the bearing race.

Align's Taiwan web site does show they sell the armature with shaft but I know you cant get them here in the US from Align RC USA.... You maybe can order from an overseas supplier?

Hey Bob, were did you find screws that small in self tapping? We have a specialty hardware store with some screws-washers-nuts small enough for ball links. But not self tapping. I could pin it, but like the screw idea better.
Update Found these, I went to a trophy shop were they used tiny screws for mounting plates on trophies. |

I am just going to have to take a chance on my 430L in a mx400 pro with extended boom and 325 blades. I was going to pin it but I have doubts that I would be able to pin it properly anyway and certainly it would ruin the warranty. I wonder how many people have never had any problems with the gold end caps. I would hope that a majority of motors are working just fine right? If a big number of the motors failed wouldn't Align recall them?
The motor runs pretty cool with my Jazz setup so hopefully that will help keep the glue from breaking free.

The gold end motors usually come apart in a crash but I have seen some come apart in flight.

I'd pin it or have someone do it for you. I thought I could get away with glueing it but even that didn't work. My endcaps slowly worked themselves out of the can and I was losing power; I thought it was my batteries but I nocied the motor slipping out of my frame. It's not that hard. Use a 1/8" bit and drilla hole as close as you can onear the ends of the motor; making sure you drill through the endcaps and put a pin or screw into it. Simple.
OR Buy the newer version silver endcapped one. |

Is there something different about RC Helicopter manufacturers than other consumer manufacturers? If there was a known issue with a product I would not hesitate to send it back to the company. Why doesn't everyone do that instead of just accepting that it could happen and fixing it themselves? Certainly this could just promote more bad designs down the road if the manufacturer does not have to warranty the products when they fail on the trex450. They might not even know about it or how bad the problem is because everyone fixes it themselves.
I am just really confused... If this is such a serious problem as everyone here is making out to be and lives and helicopters are at risk because of this design flaw then why isn't Align recalling them? The only thing that makes sense to me is that maybe a small percentage fail(just like any other product) and the most vocal people are the ones with problems(1 - 2 %). I am just trying to understand the reasoning of fixing a product myself if it has a known manufacturer defect. I would rather send it back to align so they can make sure it does not fail in the future and still be under warranty. If this is such a big problem then certainly Align would take responsibility for it wouldn't they? Is there an official ruling on this from Align somewhere that I have missed? |

Thats a good point static. Being a tinkerer myself, I try to fix the problem myself and I think that is the nature of our problem.
But after fixing it and finding that the motor shaft was worn, I don't think Heliproz would take it back. |

The swash really caught my attention, ESC on XL did have Heatsink installed under the shrink with a pad (Not sure if thermal conductive). Motor I did as preventative measure. Glad I found info on this, but seeing little response from reps on issues.
The SP I ordered an upgrade to be safe.. I went back on SE and checked everything b4 flying. |

thank you for this post, I had a gold cap motor and the screws (with a little super glue) took care of it.
