Default Ducted Fan Jets?

I know it's not heli related, but this is the general forum

Do any of you fly ducted fan jets? Not the huge ones, but the smaller foam with 64mm or 70mm ducted fans?

My neighbor is mostly a plank flyer...I recently got him into heli's, but he recently got me into the ducted fan jets. I have to say they are fun as hell! They aren't a huge challenge to fly, but the one I picked up on Black Friday...an A7 Corsair with 70mm ducted fan goes over 70mph and when flown at full throttle constantly will keep you on your toes!

I just got a F-18 Blue Angels one for Christmas...will put it together this week.

I recommend you guys try one if you haven't already. They are a blast!

Skarn- Please post some pics. At my LHS he has been selling these foam electric fan jets. An F16 and 18 I beleive and a few of the heli guys tried 'em out with good reviews. They were fairly inexpensive I think about $200 comes to mind. I don't remember the brand name but it sounds like we are talking about the same thing. - Kris

Skarn:

Can we get a link-ity-link to the ones you have? Ducted fans are the only planes I could ever be interested in and I have been eyeballing. I can't take on another hobby at this point, but I want to continue to fuel the notion of getting one.

The Phase 3 F-16 is a nice one.

I have a bunch of EDFs, some still in the box, some built, but not yet flown.

I flew, crashed, and finally destroyed a Wattage Turbo Vector with JGF 400DF brushless more. Building a new one now. And have two more NIB.

I have a Sport Jet 70 from Electric Jet Factory (www.ejf.com), built not yet flown. And I am thinking about ordering an RC Lander F8F Panther from them.

I have a Wattage F-86 with brushless and separate ailerons and elevators, built but not flown.

A GWS A-10 is in a SLOW build process. Will have Hyperion Y22 brushless motors.

In the box I have a couple of Wattage S-3 Vikings, an Alfa F-86, a GWS TA-4, and an ElectriFly L-39.

The L-39 will probably be up and flying this spring.

Here's a link to a local guy in New England who flies r/c and takes GREAT pictures.

These pics are from the 3rd annual New England Jet Rally. We have have just as much fun, if not MORE with our foamie jets than our turbines.

12 Alpha Migs, a couple of F-16s and a Lear are halfway down the link's page.

Rockin Heliboy posted the links to the 2 I currently have...the A7 Corsair and the F18 Blue Angels version.

Here's a link to one that looks awesome especially for scale. I like the full retracts and dual 64mm ducted fans! http://www.bananahobby.com/1775.html

I haven't purchased anything from banana so I can't comment, but I got both of my current planes from hobbylobby and haven't had any issues with them. Also the ones on Nitroplanes.com look decent as well.

And to think I thought I'd never like a foam, hand-launched belly landing airplane!

Actually, it's not a "general" forum. It's a general helicopter forum.

I had the Gaui TigerShark for about 50 flights before it took a dirt nap. That thing was sweet, although I could never launch it without my bungee launcher. My dumb thumbs made a horrible mistake and drove it into the ground at high speed. The only problem with these foam EDF's, is that once you crash it good, it's done. Here's a quick vid of a launch, and there are some pics in my gallery.

Crazy launch cfmorrel! I would never have even thought of that!

It's funny you mention the "bad" thing about foam EDF's...I've actually considered it quite the opposite so far. I bore mine straight into the ground at full throttle...the first 6 inches of the nose was demolished. But a bit of hotglue and it was back up and ready within an hour!

I love my L-39 from Tower Hobbies. For $100.00 it's a great intro for EDF jets. Also, foam CA fixes most of the crashes

Well after seeing a couple vids of the Gaui Tiger Shark Delta....I have one on it's way to me

I'm going to do the mod where I remove 3 of the 6 blades in the fan for more speed/power....that thing looks radical!

Saw this in a couple of places, but can't find real specs. How big is the fan?

http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/p...f1ddc7c32011c9

Interesting...in the top part is says it's a 58mm EDF. But in the Included: section it says 68mm 6-blade ducted fan...

I just flew my new F4 Phantom from Hobby lobby. It's the mini, a 21 in wingspan. It was a blast and cheap! Damn fast, and came with a good 3s 1300ma lipo. Cool way to unwind after heli flying.....
