Default Rekit? Different heli?

Well, I stripped the torque tube gears again and this time couldn't get it down intact. I guess once with a piro flipping save and auto down with no damage is all I get lol. It's pretty extensive, including broken frames at their front, but I might be able to patch that together.

Anyone else having trouble with the front torque tube gears?

Would you guys rebuild? Update to V2? Rekit? Rekit to a V2? Try a different 500?

My gears just keep going and going.

My best quess is that there is somethinh wrong with the way they are meshed.

I have to say, getting it just right is a struggle. I Always buy a bunch of gears and seek the pair which feel the smoothest.

For setting the mesh, I remove the main gear. Have the boom tight but loos enough to slide it. Then, while spinning the tail I slide the boom in and out untill I find the sweet spot... And it's a heck of a small spot...

In your case, I would rekit to a X5 formula and beat that sucker again...

It's real easy, just use a piece of the 3M tape backing. Slide the tail tight against it in between gears and then tighten the boom. There, you're done and have proper gear mesh. I've flown numerous flights and even on my 12S build and have never stripped a gear.

With the damage to your bird, I'd either buy another from the site or get a new V2 if they're out yet. The cost to repair yours would probably equal a new bird.

Can you show a quick pic? I'm having trouble visualizing it

Unfortunately on vacation at the moment. It's the red backing from the 3M tape. I forget the number, but what most people use to stick on their gyro's. I put a piece of the 3M tape backing in between the gears and push the tail into it. Tighten the screws and you're done. Once tight, just rotate the blades so the tape backing pushes out and you should have the perfect backlash for the torque tube gears. I learned this trick from Nelsonisms a while back. I've never had an issue and have gone through three motors to my current XNova running on 12S. Never stripped a gear and spinning at 2,800 RPM.

I've had three in flight failures of the front TT gears. I've tried both the methods described above, but this is the only method that works for me:

X5 TT mesh setting (2 min 54 sec)

Bear in mind you might have to perform this test with several pairs of gears, as you'll find some new ones with high spots and low spots.

Ok, I think I get it, but you use the entire piece, grey part and all?

I just do as in the vid, just a bit of play and check in in a couple spots..works for maingear/pinions too, just have to find the high spot and set mesh at that spot.. nice vid as well..
