New power supply for my Hyperion Duo

Guys, check what UPS man drop at my door today.

New power supply for my charging station Hyperion EOS0610i Duo. Massive amount of output power, from 3V to 15.5V variable or fixed 13.8V via switch at the bottom of the unit, at 40A.

The unit is the BK Precision 1692, got it at: http://www.byramlabs.com/product_inf...oducts_id/7471 at a very good price $263, comparing to other suppliers. The only thing was that it took about 6 days to get it because they do not stock the item and it comes from BK Precision.

If you want to charge two packs as one with the Duo you need something like that, because the duo needs max 360W output and this power supply provides 450+Watts.

Nice unit but expensive. For example some alternatives all under $110 include:

540W 11-18V 30A

500W 13.8V 36A

350W 24V 14.5A

I know but, none of the above Power Supplies look as good as this one, right?

Sorry to say, but your power supply is a big overkill...!! Even with a 13,5V / 20A power supply, you can easily charge 2 6S LiPo's in series.

From your pictures, it seems like you power only have connectors for one charger. With the specifications of your power supply, you could handle two Hyperion Duo's, each charging two 6S LiPo's. But you don't have the connectors for that.

But I do agree in one fact - your power supply looks great....

Do you know that from your own experience ? Of course it depends on what capacity 6S lipos and whether you want to charge at or above 1C. For example, charging two 6s 5000 mAh lipos at 1C will draw approximately 280W from the power supply. At 13V that would be 21A. Since these estimates allow for only 80% efficiency in the charger and the power supply might tolerate a small overload, then you probably could get away with a 13.5/20A unit but you would be running it at its limit and it would potentially have a shortened life under those conditions. Of course if you want to charge at 2C you are completely out of luck with that power supply.

It never hurts to have headroom in your power supply and connecting more than one charger is simple enough even with a single set of banana sockets. And besides, that's a damn fine looking PS

Don't forget that the Hyperion Duo is a "Duo" that means two chargers in one.....
So I do have two chargers connected to one output...

But don't you worry, I will find a way to connect my TP 610 C , at the same time with the Hyperion Duo, because like you said it is an overkill and it can handle it with no problem.

$100 is expensive for a 12V/20A supply but if you like the shiny case and flashy lights then go for it! For reference the Hobby Lobby 13.8V/20A is about $59 and for $99 you can get their 13.8V/40A unit: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/powersupply.htm

Ok.. I hope this is not a stupid question.... Are there any concerns with the amperage, since my breakers in my home are 20 Amp?

If I were to use a a 40 Amp power supply, would that be a problem? Would it trip my breakers if I charge multiple 6s packs at a time?

The breakers in your house are 20A at 110V AC = 2200W per circuit. A 40A 13.8V DC power supply should draw no more than about 40 x 13.8 /0.8 = 690W so you could run 3 such supplies driving lots of charges all off one AC circuit without blowing the breakers in your house.

So if I wanted use the Due to its maximum would the 13.8V/40A power supply be over kill? Or would it be just right? Also does one power supply give power to both sides of the Due?

Yes, a single power supply runs the DUO, there is only a single input lead.

13.8V/40A = 552W which is plenty for the DUO and IMO is not overkill but it is worth noting that due to current limiting on the input side, you will not get the full 180W/port unless you have at least 15V input. However at 13.8V you will probably get 160W or more which is still enough for most folk.

Can you recommend a power supply that has the 15V/40A for a good price?
