Default Help with Transition 8's

Hi,

I need help with performing 8's with transition in the middle; where you change from inverted to upright, or vice versa.

I would appreciate any tips or guides that ya'll can provide. I sort of can do Funnel 8's in the sim, but not forward or backward flights, I kept getting the tail out of track, I've been practicing in the Sim alot, but not getting anywhere near right.

I also tried to follow the video below, but I just can't make sense of stick inputs

The real trick is to be comfortable in both the source circle and the target circle and plan how you want to change.

eg. If going from an upright backward CW tail-first circle (on right side) to an inverted backward CCW tail-first circle (left side) {centre of an outward 8}, the simplest transition is an aileron roll.
- upright backward CW tail-first circle: Ail - left, Ele - up, Rud - right, Col - up
- inverted backward CCW tail-first circle: Ail - right, Ele - down, Rud - right, Col - down
- once the through the A - left transition is complete, your mind must be on stabilizing and continuing the inverted CCW circle.

Initially it takes time for the brain to settle to the new orientation. With time and practice it gets faster. The practice gets you used to it so you know what is coming.

When planning the change, always remember your rotor is your point of thrust. Which angles do you need it to pass through to continue providing thrust into the new circle and do the transition.

Thanks for the quick response.

Am pretty comfortable with flying circuits in all orientations IRL, to the point am already doing piro circuits upright and inverted IRL.

I usually perform various types of piro flips to transition in the midlle of the 8, but I would like do the Elevator/Aileron tap ones for smoother transition.

I think those transitions are challenging. I often loses momentum at the transition point, climb too high, etc. Good video.

Exactly. Flying well controlled 3d is kind of like playing music. At first you learn the notes (orientations,) then you learn then you learn scales (directional control,) then those become phrases, (basic 3d maneuv's,) and then you link the phrases into each other, becoming music.
The only way you can smoothly link a musical phrase, or heli transitions is to be as fluent as possible with both the start and the finish. From there the transition kinda finds itself. Don't try to force it, just fly one direction, then switch to the other direction. Over a couple laps, make the transitions quicker, and if you don't focus on it to hard you will find the groove. Like I said though, as long as both the parts are solid.
